Vice Chairman of Dong Thap Provincial People's Committee Huynh Minh Tuan has just signed an official dispatch requesting departments, agencies, branches, and localities to simultaneously deploy a peak period of collecting DNA biopsy samples of relatives of martyrs who have not been identified, contributing to speeding up the identification of remains of martyrs who are still missing information, meeting the aspirations of many families after many years of waiting.
After nearly 2 years of implementing the Ministry of Public Security's Plan on collecting DNA samples of martyrs' relatives, Dong Thap has updated to the National Population Database 46,427 martyr information and 46,427 relatives receiving allowances. Of which, 35,598 martyrs have identified grave information, and 10,829 martyrs have not yet identified information. For the group of martyrs whose identities have not been identified, the province has updated 8,124 relative information according to the mother line to be subject to DNA sample collection to serve comparison work.

Implementing Plan No. 453/KH-BCA-C06 of the Ministry of Public Security on launching a peak period of collecting DNA biological samples of relatives of unidentified martyrs, Dong Thap will organize sampling from July 5 to 10, 2026. During this time, 3 sampling stations will operate simultaneously in the province, each station arranges 4 working groups, ensuring to meet the progress and quality of implementation.
To make the peak period effective, the Provincial People's Committee requests departments, branches, and localities to promote propaganda of the Party's guidelines and the State's policies on the work of people with meritorious services, searching for, repatriating, and identifying martyrs' remains; mobilize relatives of martyrs to actively provide information and participate in collecting DNA samples.

The implementation of the peak period of collecting DNA samples not only contributes to completing the national database of martyrs, but also has profound humanistic meaning, expressing the morality of "When drinking water, remember the source", expressing gratitude to those who bravely sacrificed for the independence and freedom of the Fatherland, and at the same time opening up more opportunities for many families to find their loved ones' identities after decades of waiting.
