The Hue City Culture and Sports Square project is located in a golden land with four fronts on Ha Huy Tap, To Huu, Ly Tu Trong and Bui San streets, belonging to Vy Da ward (Hue City). With a scale of more than 6.5ha and a total investment of about 196 billion VND, the project is invested by the Hue City Urban Development and Construction Investment Project Management Board, started in July 2024. According to the design, the square is planned to be a complex of diverse open spaces, serving cultural, sports and entertainment needs. Mr. Duc Anh (a resident living near the project) expressed his expectation that the project will be completed on schedule on April 30, 2026. Leaders of the Hue City Urban Development and Construction Investment Project Management Board said that, according to the plan, the project will be handed over on April 30. Up to now, in the two main items of the project, package No. 10 - construction of external technical infrastructure has been completed and put into use from the end of 2025. This is considered a part of the work to create a foundation for the synchronous exploitation of the entire project.
For package No. 11 - renovating the gymnasium inside, construction units are focusing resources to complete it. This item includes renovating the project into a multi-purpose cultural space, dismantling unsuitable components and expanding the area from 11,952m2 to 19,542m2. At the construction site, there are still many unfinished items, putting great pressure on progress. Reporters' records at the construction area show that the construction site is still quite messy, mainly concentrated in the gymnasium project.
Representatives of An Bao Construction and Trading Joint Stock Company said that the unit has just sent a document to the Project Management Board for Construction Investment and Urban Development of Hue City and the Institute of Construction Science and Technology (IBST), requesting consideration of extending the construction progress of Package No. 11. According to the contractor, the package is implemented according to the economic contract and related contract appendices, with a period from January 6, 2025 to February 10, 2026. However, during the construction process, the unit encountered some objective difficulties, and at the same time, design changes arose, leading to the inability to complete the project according to the overall approved progress. On that basis, the enterprise requested the investor and related units to pay attention, consider, and create conditions to extend the project implementation time (expected to the end of May 2026) but has not been approved, with a high risk of "missing appointment".
