The garbage transfer site located at the end of Thoi Nhut 2 residential area (Tan An ward, Can Tho city) has officially stopped receiving garbage. However, the situation of illegal dumping and scattered garbage around the area still occurs, making people unable to feel secure.

According to records, in recent days, the stench spreading from the garbage transfer site has decreased significantly. This is considered a positive sign after a long period of people having to live with pollution, flies, mosquitoes and the risk of disease outbreaks.
Mr. Pham Nhut Thanh (Thoi Nhut 2 residential area, Tan An ward) shared that currently, the garbage transfer yard is almost no longer smelly as before, life is less affected. However, there is still a situation of secretly dumping garbage, making the area not really clean.
“Previously, the stench was strong, greatly affecting daily life, especially for families with young children. Now we just hope to rebuild the embankment soon, build a green park as planned initially,” Mr. Thanh said.

Sharing the same concern, Ms. Phan Nhung (Thoi Nhut 2 residential area, Tan An ward) said that the cessation of operation of the garbage transfer yard is a welcome thing, but if not managed strictly, garbage may continue to appear, and the risk of pollution returning is very high. People hope to soon renovate the land, plant trees or build parks to have common living space.
Informing Lao Dong Newspaper, Mr. Nguyen Thai Bao - Vice Chairman of Tan An Ward People's Committee (Can Tho City) said that from April 10 to 24, 2026, Do Duy Construction Co., Ltd. must complete the relocation of all garbage, equipment, machinery, and factories; and at the same time carry out sanitation, environmental clearance, repair and restore the clean status of the ground to hand over to local management.

During this time, only vehicles are allowed to enter and exit to transport garbage and equipment out, and no new garbage is received. Vehicles must register license plates with Tan An Ward Police to serve the supervision work.
The Vice Chairman of Tan An Ward People's Committee assigned the Ward Police to strengthen patrols and closely monitor vehicles entering and leaving the temporary garbage collection point in Thoi Nhut 2 residential area and advise and propose to the Ward People's Committee to impose fines in the field of environment (if Do Duy Construction Co., Ltd. violates).
Although the garbage transfer yard has stopped operating, people here still want the handling measures to be implemented synchronously and thoroughly; especially to prevent illegal dumping of garbage and soon renovate the land according to the right direction, in order to restore a healthy living environment and community living space for the residential area.
