Information from the leader of the Can Tho City Hydrometeorological Station, in 2025, the flood peak at the headwaters of the Tien River (Tan Chau) and Hau River (Chau Doc) is likely to be higher than alert level I but still lower than the average flood peak of many years. The peak flood season is expected to fall in the first half and the end of October. Although there is no risk of major flooding, the possibility of unusually rapid flooding due to the influence of regulating the flow from upstream cannot be ruled out.
In Can Tho City, this year's rainy season is expected to start earlier than the average of many years, around the second half of April and early May. The total rainfall this year is forecast to be 5 - 15% higher than the average of many years, in July and August, the common rainfall is 300 - 400mm.

According to the forecast, from the beginning of August, the water level on rivers and canals will start to rise. Notably, the peak high tide from September to December will exceed alert level III. On the Hau River flowing through Can Tho City, the highest tide peak of the year may appear around the end of October and mid-November, with water levels ranging from 2.2m - 2.3m, which is 20 - 30cm higher than alert level III.
Meanwhile, the historical peak tide recorded during the full moon of the 9th lunar month in 2022 was 2.27m, 27cm higher than the III alarm.
Looking back at 2024, Can Tho City has had to face 3 high tides with peak tides exceeding alert level III. Of which, the high tide of the 15th day of the 9th lunar month in 2024 recorded the highest water level of 2.20m, lasting for 9 days.
During the flood combined with high tides on the 15th day of the 9th lunar month in 2024, 13 roads in the inner city of Ninh Kieu district were flooded. The cause of flooding is due to river water overflowing the railing of Ninh Kieu Park and the drainage section outside the embankment wall without a tide valve; the Hau River Park discharge gate without a tide valve or a damaged tide valve, loss of cover; river water overflowing Xom Chai ferry terminal; water overflowing the road surface...

Ninh Kieu District has repaired and upgraded the embankment and railing system adjacent to Ninh Kieu Park by taking measures to build higher rows of bricks and block sandbags to prevent river water from overflowing into sidewalks, parks, and roads, causing flooding of people's houses and shops.
At the recent Conference to summarize the work of natural disaster prevention and control in 2024 and deploy tasks for 2025 in Can Tho City, Vice Chairman of Can Tho City People's Committee Nguyen Ngoc He requested Ninh Kieu District to have fundamental solutions to prevent water from Can Tho River from overflowing through Ben Ninh Kieu area; conduct a review and repair of damaged sewer covers in the district to cope with high tides, prevent flooding in the city's inner city when the tide rises this year.
