In the afternoon of August 1st, through monitoring satellite cloud images, weather radar and lightning positioning, it was shown that convective cloud areas are developing strongly, causing showers with thunderstorms and lightning in many localities in the South.
Thunderstorm clouds appeared in many areas of Vinh Long, Dong Thap, Tay Ninh, Ho Chi Minh City (An Thoi Dong, Tan Nhut areas), Lam Dong and Dong Nai.
In the next 0-3 hours, thunderstorms will continue to develop, causing showers and thunderstorms in the above areas, then tend to expand to neighboring localities. Common rainfall is from 5-30 mm, in some places over 50 mm.
The meteorological agency warns that during thunderstorms, there is a possibility of tornadoes, lightning, hail, strong gusts of wind at level 5-8 (8-21 m/s). Heavy rain in a short time can also cause localized flooding in low-lying areas and urban areas.
On August 2nd, the weather in the South will turn to sunny during the day, with light rain in some places in the evening. Sunlight intensity will increase compared to previous days, while rain tends to decrease significantly.
The highest temperature is commonly 31-34 degrees Celsius in the East, in some places above 34 degrees Celsius. 30-33 degrees Celsius in the West.
Rain mainly appears from 1:00 PM to 7:00 PM, with a probability of about 40-60%. The center of rain is concentrated along the western border area, including Tay Ninh, Dong Thap, An Giang and the northern Dong Nai area. Mostly light rain, locally with moderate rain and thunderstorms.
Although the rain is decreasing, the meteorological agency reminds people to still be wary of tornadoes, lightning and strong gusts of wind during thunderstorms; at the same time, monitor weather forecasts to proactively ensure safety when moving or organizing outdoor activities.
