Water levels at most stations downstream of the Saigon - Dong Nai river system and rivers in the Southwest region have been falling slowly in the past 24 hours.
Water levels at stations are likely to rise slowly following the high tides of early October (Lunar calendar) in the coming days. The highest tides at most stations will occur on November 2-4.
In Ho Chi Minh City, Phu An and Nha Be stations may reach 1.52 - 1.57m (approximately or 0.07m higher than alarm level II). At Thu Dau Mot station, it may reach 1.55 - 1.60m (approximately alarm level III). At Bien Hoa station, it may reach approximately alarm level I.
In the Mekong Delta, My Thuan station is about 1.85 - 1.90m above alert level III. Can Tho station is 1.90 - 1.95m at approximately or 0.05m above alert level II.
The highest tide of the week will appear in the middle of the week, at a level lower than the same period last year by about 6 - 9cm, the lowest tide of the week will appear at the end of the week and at a level approximately equal to or higher than the same period in 2023 by about 7 - 27cm.
The peak tide level next week is high, so we need to be on guard against heavy rain combined with high tides that could cause flooding in low-lying areas and riverside areas, affecting activities and life in the Southern region.
Regarding the weather, on November 1, the cold high pressure will strengthen again in the North of our country. The low pressure trough with its axis through the Central Central region will remain. In the Southern sea areas, the West to Southwest winds will be of medium to weak intensity. From November 2, the wind will shift to the Northeast and gradually become stronger.
The continental high pressure continues to strengthen weakly, until November 4-5, it will strengthen strongly to the North of our country, then gradually encroach to the South. The low trough over the Central region is gradually compressed to the South, through the South connecting with the gradually strengthening disturbance area in the area north of Truong Sa archipelago.
Above, the subtropical high pressure has an axis across the North, around November 5-6, with a tendency to encroach on the West. In the sea areas of the South, the Northeast wind has an average intensity.
Therefore, in the first days of November, rain will increase again in the South.
