On September 18, the Southern Representative Office of the Vietnam Martyrs' Families Support Association; Ho Chi Minh City Martyrs' Families and War Invalids Support Association coordinated with the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Home Affairs and the family to organize a solemn exhumation ceremony, bringing the remains of martyr Bui Tien Dung from Ba Ria - Vung Tau Martyrs' Cemetery to his hometown in Hung Yen province.
Martyr Bui Tien Dung was born in 1955, enlisted in May 1974, and sacrificed himself on March 21, 1982 while on duty in Cambodia. After that, his remains were repatriated to Ba Ria - Vung Tau Martyrs' Cemetery.
After 44 years since his sacrifice, the remains of martyr Bui Tien Dung have now been exhumed for relocation from Ba Ria - Vung Tau Martyrs' Cemetery to his hometown, and are expected to be buried at Dong Hung Martyrs' Cemetery (Dong Hung commune, Hung Yen province).
Mr. Bui Van Thao (born in 1957, younger brother of the martyr) said that after his older brother sacrificed himself, the family spent decades searching and collecting information about the resting place of his relatives in both Cambodia and many places across the country.
Through this, it was determined that the remains of martyr Bui Tien Dung were buried in Ba Ria - Vung Tau. With the support of forces, organizations and functional agencies, the family now fulfills the wish to bring the martyr's remains back to be buried in their homeland.
The exhumation, incense offering and farewell rituals are solemnly carried out at Ba Ria - Vung Tau Martyrs' Cemetery, expressing respect and gratitude to those who have contributed and sacrificed for the Fatherland. According to the plan, the remains of martyr Bui Tien Dung will be organized by the locality and his family to hold a memorial service and be buried at the martyrs' cemetery according to their wishes.
According to the Management Board of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Home Affairs, Ba Ria - Vung Tau Martyrs' Cemetery currently has 3,216 martyrs' graves, of which 303 graves currently have no information about martyrs. Currently, the unit is coordinating with agencies and organizations to connect with relatives of martyrs across the country to verify and supplement according to regulations.
Mr. Pham Quang Lap - Vice Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City Association for Supporting Families of Martyrs and War Invalids said that in the past time, the Association has supported the relocation of more than 40 martyrs' graves to their hometowns, and at the same time guided the adjustment of information on tombstones for more than 200 martyrs according to the evidentiary method.
From the beginning of 2026 to now, the Ba Ria - Vung Tau regional office has sent 50 official letters to northern provinces and has successfully connected information with 30 relatives of martyrs. Currently, it is continuing to support 10 families to carry out procedures to adjust martyr grave information, creating conditions to bring remains back to their hometowns according to their wishes.
In the coming time, the Ho Chi Minh City Association for Supporting Families of Martyrs and War Invalids will continue to promote the application of information channels and social networks to proactively contact and support relatives of martyrs. As well as closely coordinate with state management agencies during the peak period of "Operation 500 Days and Nights" to promptly meet the aspirations of martyrs' families.
