On February 2nd, information from Nghe An General Friendship Hospital said that the unit is treating patient Nguyen Thi H. (residing in Thanh Tien village, Nhan Hoa commune, Nghe An), who was electrocuted while erecting a Neu tree in front of her house.
According to the hospital, the patient was diagnosed with compression of the acute lobe of the right hand; degree III, IV, V electric burns in the chest area, left shoulder and lobe of the right hand. Notably, the right wrist area was deeply burned, with a high risk of necrosis, and may require limb amputation.
Previously, on the afternoon of February 1st, Ms. H. and her husband erected a New Year tree made of fresh bamboo to welcome Tet. When the tree was raised high, the top touched the power line above, causing both husband and wife to be electrocuted. The victims were taken to Anh Son Medical Center for emergency treatment, after which Ms. H. was transferred to Nghe An General Friendship Hospital.
Immediately after being admitted to the hospital, doctors urgently consulted and performed surgery to open the forearm cavity of the right hand to release compression, hoping to preserve the patient's limb.
According to Dr. Trinh Van Thong - Head of the Burn Department, after surgery, the patient was awake, able to access, and his hematology was temporarily stable. However, the burn injuries were still severe, blood circulation in the right hand was poor, and the prognosis of risk of limb amputation was still high.
Doctors recommend that during Tet, people often erect Neu trees, hang flags, repair houses... posing potential risks of electrical unsafety. When performing elevated tasks, it is necessary to carefully observe the safe distance from the power line, do not use long materials, or conduct electricity when safety conditions are not ensured to avoid unfortunate accidents.
