According to the reporter of Lao Dong Newspaper, by 7:00 p.m. on May 13, the authorities had basically controlled the fire at a factory on Phuc Dien Street (Tay Mo Ward, Nam Tu Liem District, Hanoi).
Currently, the authorities have not been able to count the damage to people and property. The cause of the fire is being investigated and clarified.
2 hours earlier, a fire broke out here, engulfing a one-story factory, built with an iron frame and corrugated iron roof. The column of black smoke rose hundreds of meters high, standing for kilometers and a distance, and was still visible.
After receiving the report, dozens of officers and soldiers of the fire prevention and fighting and rescue forces were present at the scene on duty. Two excavators were also mobilized to the scene to serve the fire fighting work.
A leader of Tay Mo Ward People's Committee said that at the time of the fire, many workers had escaped. The authorities are determining the identity of the owner of the burning factory.
Talking to Lao Dong at the scene, Ms. Nguyen Thi Ten (residing at house number 852, Phuc Dien street, Tay Mo ward, Nam Tu Liem district) said that the damage to her nearly 100m2 house is not yet clear.
"When I saw the black smoke rising, I panicked and ran back but couldn't get inside. All I know is that the paper factory and the neighbor's factory were on fire" - Ms. Ten shared.
Mr. Nguyen Cong Hai (residing at 382, Phuc Dien Street) said that the fire broke out at around 4:30 p.m., originating from a truck.
"After a loud explosion, the fire flared up fiercely, bringing thick black smoke to the paper factory area, then quickly spread to neighboring factories. At that time, there were still workers inside, it is unclear whether they will be able to escape or not" - Mr. Hai worried.
Ms. Dang Thi Ti - a resident living near the scene - said that the fire occurred at the factory opposite her house. When the incident happened, her whole family went to work and the house locked the door.
"I ran back in panic but couldn't get into the house, so it was unclear if there was any damage. This row of factories was built temporarily, without a license" - Ms. Ti said.
