According to the announcement of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Construction, from July 26, this road section will ban passenger cars with more than 16 seats and trucks from 6am to 8pm, from Monday to Friday.
At the same time, completely prohibit semi-trailers, stop and park on this road section.
The above section of Le Thanh Ton Street passes through the headquarters of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee and connects directly to Nguyen Hue walking street.
Previously, from the end of 2016, this road section has banned taxi cars, passenger cars and trucks from 6am to 8pm, from Monday to Friday; and prohibited semi-trailers.
However, according to the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Construction, although traditional taxis have been banned from circulating on Le Thanh Ton Street, technology vehicles are still circulating normally, causing unfairness between types of transportation businesses, leading to inadequacies in traffic organization.
This adjustment aims to ensure fairness between means of transport, while being consistent with the current actual situation.
The Department of Construction has sent a document to the Traffic Police Department - Ho Chi Minh City Police and the Road Traffic Infrastructure Management Center to coordinate in implementing the adjustments.
The Road Traffic Infrastructure Management Center is required to install a new traffic signal system in the area, and at the same time coordinate with functional forces to ensure information is fully and clearly communicated to the people.
After implementation, the units will monitor the actual traffic situation and report the results after 30 days to the Department of Construction to have a basis for considering further adjustments if necessary.
The Department of Construction also requested the Traffic Police Department to direct forces to increase inspection and strictly handle vehicles violating the Road Traffic Law on this route, especially during prohibited hours.
