On March 17, Southern Power Corporation continued to issue warnings about the recurrence of impersonating electricity employees to call to scam people; Forging documents of Vietnam Power Group continued to be complicated in 21 southern provinces and cities and the whole country.
Southern Power Corporation (EVNSPC) continues to advise customers to use electricity to be vigilant; absolutely do not provide personal information, do not access strange links to avoid having their property stolen.
According to EVNSPC statistics, there are 5 ways that scammers often use to impersonate electricity employees, forge electricity industry documents to appropriate customers' assets.
First, impersonating an electricity employee to call, send text messages asking for urgent payment of electricity bills or threatening to cut off electricity if the money is not transferred immediately. Next, the scammer suggested that customers make friends via Zalo, instruct them to download fake EVNSPC applications (same form as real applications) or QR codes to ask customers to pay through those channels. When customers click on a fake application download link or QR code, the device control will be taken away.
Second, impersonating electricity employees to advise on installing and maintaining electrical equipment, replacing electric meters and collecting unjustified money.
Third, fake electricity debt notices: Sending fake EVNSPC messages and emails with untrue content about unpaid invoices.
Fourth, send a message or email with a fake link to EVNSPC's website, asking customers to enter personal information or bank account.
Fifth, forging documents of Vietnam Electricity Group and Southern Power Corporation on changing the form of electricity bill payment, requiring customers to provide information or access links to update information, thereby committing acts of property appropriation.
According to EVNSPC, in the past, the unit has continuously advised customers to be vigilant against calls and messages from unidentified subjects. However, with the sophisticated scams of bad guys, many people still "fall into traps" and have a large amount of money appropriated.
EVNSPC affirmed that the Corporation and its member units do not collect electricity bills via Zalo and SMS messages. To ensure safety, EVNSPC recommends that customers be vigilant when receiving strange calls/ messages.
EVNSPC only uses official channels such as websites, customer service applications, and customer service outlets to notify customers. Therefore, when receiving information about electricity, customers should check through EVNSPC's official information channel.
In particular, absolutely do not provide personal information such as phone number, CCCD, bank account via phone, Zalo, SMS or websites of unknown origin; Absolutely do not access links, do not download applications of unknown origin sent by strangers.
When receiving information about urgent electricity bill payment requests, suspected fraud messages, customers should immediately contact the electricity company, the electricity company in the management area; Customer service hotline for online support 24/7: 19001006 - 19009000 to verify information.
EVNSPC also recommends that customers, when becoming victims of scams, need to immediately report to the police to be able to support and resolve them promptly.
