At the groundbreaking ceremony of urban railway line No. 2, Nam Thang Long - Tran Hung Dao section (metro No. 2) held recently, the leaders of the Hanoi Urban Railway Project Management Board (MRB) announced the decision of the Hanoi People's Committee on approving the route plan and construction location along the line at a scale of 1/500 from station C8 to station C10, under the Metro Line 2 Construction Investment Project.
According to the approval decision, the C9 station - Hoan Kiem Lake station will be built underground on Dinh Tien Hoang Street through the Hoan Kiem watch Street - Park area and the headquarters of the Hanoi People's Council and People's Committee.
Station C9 is an underground station, with a scale of 4 floors with a typical size of about 171.5mx19m. The total land area for research and construction of station C9 is about 7,703m2.

As for Station C10 - Tran Hung Dao Station, it was built underground under Hang Bai Street at the intersection with Tran Hung Dao Street with a scale of 4 floors, typical size of about 150mx21m. The total land area for research and construction of Station C10 is about 5,482m2.
In particular, Station C10 will connect to the station of the urban railway line No. 3, Hanoi - Hoang Mai station section (metro No. 3, Hanoi - Hoang Mai station section). Accordingly, Station C10 of Metro Line 2 will connect cross- again with Station S13 of Metro Line 3, Hanoi - Hoang Mai Station section.
At the transit floor of station C10, there are backup structures to be able to open the connection with the transit floor of station S13, built in the next phase.
Below station C10, the retaining layer of line 3 is designed, when station S13 is built in the future, it will be built next to the expected waiting areas of station C10, ensuring the connection between the two stations.

According to the approved route plan, from station C8 on Phan Dinh Phung street to Hang Duong street, metro line 2 will follow two parallel tunnels at the same level and gradually switch to overlapping arrangement.
From the intersection of Hang Duong Street and Hang Chieu Street, the tunnel route will be stacked completely along Hang Duong and Hang Ngang streets to the beginning of Hang Dao Street, the route will turn eastward to go under the residential area of Hoan Kiem Ward, Ba Kieu Temple area and go into Dinh Tien Hoang Street.
After Station C9, the stacked double tunnel continues to follow Dinh Tien Hoang Street to the area in front of the Hanoi Post Office building, gradually moving to a parallel arrangement at the same level and following Hang Bai Street to Station C10.
After station C10, a train tunnel will be arranged to the end of the route at the intersection between Hang Bai - Nguyen Du and Le Van Huu streets.

"For the underground section, metro project No. 2, Nam Thang Long - Tran Hung Dao section will continue to use TBM (Tunnel Boring machine) technology tunnel excavation. The contractor will decide which country to use the TBM," said Mr. Le Trung Hieu - Deputy Director of the Hanoi Department of Finance.
Currently in Hanoi, the urban railway project No. 3, the Nhon - Hanoi Railway Station section is using a pair of specially designed TBMs. The machine is manufactured by Herrenkecht (Germany), is over 100m long and weighs about 850 tons.
Metro Line 2, Nam Thang Long - Tran Hung Dao section is 10.84km long, including 1.94km above ground and 8.9km underground, with 10 stations: C1 - Xuan Dinh, C2 - Ngoai Giao Doan, C3 - Tay Ho Tay, C4 - Buoi, C5 - Quan Ngua, C6 - Bach Thao, C7 - Ho Tay, C8 - Hang Dau, C9 - Hoan Kiem and C10 - Tran Hung Dao.
In particular, Xuan Dinh Depot was developed into the first pilot TOD point in Hanoi, combining the transit area with mixed-use commercial, service, and housing, creating a new growth pole in the North of the city.
The C9 underground station - Hoan Kiem Lake is oriented to become a central core TOD model - intersecting underground traffic, public space and urban heritage.
