From the end of June 2025 to now, Gia Lai province has recorded African swine fever in 52 livestock households in 39 villages and hamlets of 22 communes and wards.
The total number of pigs infected and destroyed was more than 1,000, with a weight of more than 61 tons. During the week from August 23 to 29, the epidemic broke out in 4 households in 4 communes, destroying 36 children.
Currently, 14/21 communes and wards have not had any new outbreaks for 21 days, including: An Nhon Dong, Tuy Phuoc Tay, Tuy Phuoc, An Hao, Cuu An, Ia Nan, Mang Yang, Ia Tul, Ia Krai, Chu Se, Ia Kret, Ia Phi, Lo Pang and Al Ba.
According to the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Gia Lai province, erratic weather, seasonal changes - the West is in the rainy season, while the East is hot and sunny with rain - have affected the resistance of livestock, posing a potential risk of an outbreak.
To control the epidemic, the province maintains 4 checkpoints on key national highways until September 30, including: Binh De (QL1, Hoai Nhon Bac ward), Song An (QL19, Cuu An commune), Ia Khuol (QL14, Ia Khuol commune) and Ia Le (QL14, Ia Le commune).
In this situation, Chairman of the Gia Lai Provincial People's Committee Pham Anh Tuan requested departments, branches and localities to identify epidemic prevention and control as a key and urgent task that must be implemented regularly, continuously and scientifically. Absolutely do not let subjectivity, negligence or formal handling occur.
Prevention and control of epidemics must start from livestock farming, taking disease prevention as the main focus, detecting early and thoroughly handling outbreaks, not allowing recurrence or widespread spread. Anti-epidemic work must be associated with the goal of stabilizing production, protecting the market and people's lives.
He requested to clearly assign responsibilities between levels and sectors from the province to the grassroots. The heads of units and localities must take the highest responsibility for epidemic prevention and control in the management area.
"Chairmen of communes and wards must be fully responsible to the Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee if they lack responsibility in leading and directing the epidemic to arise on a large scale, causing great damage," Mr. Pham Anh Tuan emphasized.
The Chairman of the Gia Lai Provincial People's Committee requested localities to propagate so that people do not hide the epidemic, do not sell or throw dead pigs into the environment. Organize periodic cleaning and disinfection in livestock farming areas, markets, slaughterhouses and old outbreaks.
The Department of Agriculture and Environment strengthens inspection and supervision of epidemic prevention and control in localities, especially in areas with epidemics and high-risk areas. Tighten quarantine at stations, checkpoints and closely monitor slaughterhouses to detect early sources of infection.
