In the early 1960s, the Politburo of the Central Committee of the Party decided to open weapons to the South by sea. In 1961, according to the Instruction of the Politburo and the Central Military Commission, the Command decided to set up 759 delegation (including soldiers in the South and some Southern officials gathered to the North). Delegation 759 is responsible for procurement of vehicles and transporting supplies for the Southern battlefield.
On the night of 8.4.1962, the delegation of 759 (after changing the signaling session was 125) the Vietnamese People's Navy made a reconnaissance trip to the South safely. On the night of October 11, 1962, Phuong Dong 1 ship departed from the K15 wharf, including 13 sailors who were the Southern soldiers gathered, led by comrade Le Van Mot as the captain, Mr. Bong Van Fork as politician. After 6 days and nights of the sea, cleverly evading the enemy's hunting, the ship docked at Vam Lung - Ca Mau safely. The first weapon transportation by sea was successful. Roads throughout the North-South coast were opened.
Since then, at the K15 wharf, the "non -numerical ships" serial leave the wharf, carrying a large amount of weapons equipped with the battlefield, including the places where the road has not reached. Each train comes from the K15 wharf, officers and soldiers who are not difficult and dangerous lurking, determined with the spirit of "all for the front line", "all for the South to defeat American invaders".
During the historic months, there have been 88 sea military transportations from K15 Wharf carrying nearly 5,000 tons of weapons, ammunition and thousands of tons of other goods to support the Southern battlefield. Some of these ships were forced to be destroyed to erase traces discovered by the enemy, ensuring absolute secretion for this special route.
To commemorate the merits and soldiers on the countless ships, Hai Phong City has built a monument to commemorate the Ho Chi Minh way at sea, adjacent to the K15 Wharf relic. On August 18, 2008, K15 wharf was ranked as a National Resistance Historical Site, according to Decision No. 63/2008/QD-BVHTTDL of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism. Recently, the Prime Minister issued Decision 1473 to rank it as a Special National Monument (16-term 2024) with 6 monuments. Including the Ho Chi Minh Sea Historical Site Cluster (Hai Phong City, Phu Yen Province, Ba Ria - Vung Tau, Ca Mau).
Ms. Pham Thi Huyen - Director of the Center for Culture, Sports and Tourism of Do Son District - said: K15 Wharf is a famous red address, welcoming about 8,000 visitors from inside and outside the city each year to visit and learn about the history of the Unknown Wharf, most of whom are groups of students coming to visit and study.
