On January 13, Hanoi City Police organized a conference to assess the results of reviewing, statistics and propose solutions for 51 points that frequently experience traffic congestion in the City.
According to the report at the Conference, through review, it is currently determined that there are 51 points in the city that frequently experience congestion, mainly concentrated in the inner city area, of which 16 congestion points originate from barriers serving the construction of works and projects; 35 congestion points due to traffic volume exceeding the capacity of the current traffic infrastructure.
Based on assessing the causes and extent of impact, functional units have implemented a number of solutions to gradually overcome, reduce traffic pressure and improve traffic organization efficiency in the city such as: Strengthening patrols, controls, and strictly handling violations that are direct causes of traffic congestion (including: encroachment on roads and sidewalks for business and trading; picking up and dropping off passengers in violation of regulations; illegal parking; illegal stopping and parking...); adjusting cycles and headlights at intersections; urging construction units to accelerate progress; installing and adjusting traffic signs according to hours; cutting sidewalks, closing open paths, expanding road surfaces...

Speaking to direct at the Conference, Lieutenant General Nguyen Thanh Tung - Director of Hanoi City Police emphasized that solving traffic congestion is a key political task, which must be implemented regularly, not situational and not a separate task of the Traffic Police force.
Lieutenant General Nguyen Thanh Tung requested units to unify awareness, data and list of congestion points to serve the direction and administration; organize the serious implementation of the results of classification of causes and solutions that have been identified, handle the causes accurately; have timelines and criteria for evaluating effectiveness; ensure substantiveness, no formalism, no movement.
Request to change the approach from handling each point to organizing traffic according to axes - routes - areas; strengthen remote traffic diversion, limit chain congestion. Prioritize the implementation of fast and effective solutions such as: adjusting traffic light cycles, reorganizing lanes, re-drawing paint lines,... At the same time, the Traffic Police Department proactively grasps the situation and progress of barrier construction works to promptly propose and urge the reduction of barriers and restore the road surface on schedule.
Emphasizing the requirement to tighten discipline and order in implementation, the Director of the City Police assigned the Traffic Police Department to develop a specific roadmap for handling the above 51 congestion points, with a timeline, and at the same time adjust the plan to suit reality.
Immediately after the Conference, the Director of the City Police requested units to urgently implement the agreed contents, report on schedule; if there are difficulties or obstacles beyond authority during the implementation process, they must promptly report for consideration and direction to remove them.
