Ho Chi Minh City - People's Teacher, Professor, Doctor, Doctor Nguyen Dinh Hoi passed away in the early morning of June 29.

On the morning of June 29, Ho Chi Minh City University Medical Center Hospital informed that after a period of illness, being wholeheartedly cared for by the collective of doctors of Ho Chi Minh City University Medical Center Hospital, and cared for by the family, but due to old age and weakness, People's Teacher, Professor, Doctor, Doctor Nguyen Dinh Hoi - former Rector of Ho Chi Minh City University Medical Center, the first Director of Ho Chi Minh City University Medical Center Hospital passed away at 2:03 am on June 29, 2026, at the age of 92.

People's Teacher, Professor, Doctor, Doctor Nguyen Dinh Hoi was born on January 2, 1936, native of Thanh Hoa.

In 1954, he excellently passed the valedictorian exam of both major universities at that time, the University of Pedagogy and Hanoi Medical University. With the desire to treat diseases and save people and take care of the health of his family and people, he decided to choose to pursue medicine.

In 1960, after graduating as a doctor, he was kept at Hanoi Medical University to work at the Department of Anatomy, before transferring to the Department of Surgery under the chairmanship of Professor Ton That Tung.

In 1981, at the invitation of Professor Truong Cong Trung - Rector of Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy at that time, he transferred to work in Ho Chi Minh City. Professor Nguyen Dinh Hoi successively took on important responsibilities: Lecturer of the Department of Surgery, then Head of the Faculty of Medicine and then Rector of Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy (1993 - 2007).

The bright spot in his management career is the first School-Institute model in Vietnam. Being both the principal and the first director, he has brought Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy Hospital to breakthrough development.

In addition to management work, Professor Nguyen Dinh Hoi has left a valuable academic legacy for the country's medicine. He is the author of 6 monographs, editor-in-chief of 10 volumes of "Surgery Pathology Lectures", "Patiology Encyclopedics" and participated in drafting the English - French - Vietnamese Surgery Dictionary and the English - French - Vietnamese Medical Dictionary.

In the role of researcher, he has chaired many major scientific projects from the city level, the Ministry level to the State level, along with more than 70 valuable specialized works...

Professor Nguyen Dinh Hoi was awarded many noble awards by the Party and State: Title of Meritorious Teacher (1990); People's Teacher (1996); National Emulation Soldier (2000); Second and Third-class Labor Medals; Second-class Anti-American Resistance Medal; 55-year Party Badge...
