The event marked an important development step, while affirming the increasingly expanding scale and increasingly enhanced prestige of WMI in Vietnam.
The WMI International Mathematical Olympiad was founded by Mr. Kun Lung Tsai - Chairman of the Chinese Mathematics Association and Mr. Quan Lam - professor at the University of California, Berkeley in 2013.

The competition connects academies and educational institutions from all over the world, gathering thousands of contestants from nearly 40 countries and territories. The competition aims to find and nurture students with outstanding mathematical abilities, while creating opportunities for them to exchange, learn, develop creative thinking and problem-solving skills comprehensively.
In particular, the WMI International Mathematical Olympiad - the National Round in Vietnam this year witnessed a strong explosion in the number of candidates with nearly 1,000 students from schools from preschool to high school in Hanoi registering to compete. The large participation and outstanding growth of students at many levels of education not only reflects the strong spread of the exam, but also shows the increasing interest from parents and schools in creating opportunities for them to try their hand at the prestigious international Mathematical arena.
At the opening ceremony of this year's national round, the Organizing Committee was honored to welcome the presence of distinguished guests representing the Ministry of Education and Training, the Department of Education and Training, and the Boards of Directors of primary, secondary and high schools in the city.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Mr. Cai Viet Long - representative of the Organizing Committee - emphasized: "The WMI International Mathematical Olympiad not only comprehensively assesses students' mathematical abilities, but also contributes to developing logical thinking, math solving skills in English, and at the same time opens up opportunities for exchange, learning and connecting with international friends who share a passion for Mathematics".

Also at today's opening ceremony, Dr. Thieu Quang Tung - expert in fostering national and international excellent students in Mathematics, teacher of Cau Giay Secondary School - on behalf of the delegation of schools spoke about the importance of the competition: "Not only helping students consolidate and expand knowledge, competitions like WMI also contribute to training logical thinking, problem-solving ability, as well as bravery and confidence when stepping out into a global competitive environment. More importantly, this is an opportunity for students to exchange, learn, access international standards and nurture a long-term passion for learning.

This year, Oxbridge Group Education Joint Stock Company continues to take on the role of Organizing Committee of the WMI 2026 International Mathematical Olympiad in Vietnam.
With nearly 1,000 candidates, the Organizing Committee has prepared extremely thoroughly and professionally in all stages, from expanding the scale of exam rooms at Tran Duy Hung Secondary School, strengthening coordination personnel to the organization process, strictly securing exam questions. The national round is committed to taking place safely, seriously, in accordance with regulations and ensuring professional quality according to international standards.
Contestants who achieve high results in the National Round will have the opportunity to register and represent Vietnam to participate in the WMI 2026 International Finals held this summer in Tokyo - Japan in July.
