On May 25, 2026, Thang Long University organized a meeting with Professor, Doctor of Science, People's Teacher Hoang Xuan Sinh - the first female professor of Mathematics in Vietnam and an exchange with the documentary film crew about her.
The work is produced by the Central Documentary and Scientific Film Studio under the order of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism in the category of Famous Persons, Preserving and Promoting Vietnamese Cultural Values. After the first screening at the National Cinema Center on May 11, the film continued to be introduced to lecturers and students of Thang Long University.
This is a rare time that Professor, Doctor of Science, People's Teacher Hoang Xuan Sinh appeared in public at the age of 93. The event is not only a film activity but also an opportunity for many generations of lecturers and students to express gratitude to the founder of the school, looking back at the development journey of Thang Long University from its early days of establishment.
Professor, Doctor of Science, People's Teacher Hoang Xuan Sinh is the first female professor of Mathematics in Vietnam, the first foreign woman to successfully defend her doctoral thesis in Paris (France).
She is the founder and first rector of Thang Long University - the first non-public university in Vietnam.
She used to study in France, but always remembered her father's advice and the concept that going to school is to return to build the country, and to do that, she must pursue science.
In May 1975, Ms. Hoang Xuan Sinh became the first foreign woman to successfully defend her doctoral dissertation on Gr-discipline at Paris 7 University before a council of many leading mathematicians in the world.
After successfully defending his doctoral thesis, Professor, Doctor of Science, People's Teacher Hoang Xuan Sinh returned to the country, contributing to the development of the country's education, devoting himself to training doctors with the desire to build a high-level, complete mathematical system right in the country.
In the film, Professor, Doctor of Science, People's Teacher Hoang Xuan Sinh shared: "First of all, I see that in the future I must learn English.
She said that the school at that time introduced teaching three foreign languages including Russian, English, and French for students to choose from, and at the same time deployed Vietnamese Accounting, American Accounting and French Accounting to meet the trend of the market economy.
Mentioning "Invariable Sinh" - a mathematical concept developed by her in her doctoral dissertation defended in France under the guidance of French mathematician Alexander Grothendieck, Prof. Dr. Sc. Ha Huy Khoai, Director of Thang Long Institute of Mathematics and Applied Sciences, Head of the Faculty of Information Technology, Thang Long University, Former Director of the Vietnam Institute of Mathematics, said that the biggest "immuneness" in Professor Hoang Xuan Sinh's life is patriotism and love for science.
Nguyen Quynh Anh, a student of K35 majoring in Multimedia Communications, one of hundreds of students present at the event - emotionally shared: "After watching the movie, I realized that building Thang Long school as it is today is a long journey for previous generations. I was really moved when I saw old documents and heard stories about the journey of dedication and sacrifice for education of Professor, Doctor of Science, People's Teacher Hoang Xuan Sinh".
Professor, Doctor of Science, People's Teacher Hoang Xuan Sinh was awarded the title "People's Teacher" by the Vietnamese State and the "Academic Palm Medal" by the French Government - prestigious and noble titles for his contributions to education.
