On the morning of August 29, Dong Ha Ward Police (Quang Tri province) confirmed that they had sent forces to protect and handle the scene of the corrugated iron roof blown off by the wind in the Nguyen Du street area.
Previously, at about 9 am on the same day, a strong gust of wind swept through the area, causing the corrugated iron roof of the acupressure facility of the Association of the Blind in Dong Ha ward to shake violently.
According to people, just a few minutes later, a strong gust of wind continued to appear, blowing up the entire corrugated iron roof and steel beams. The roof was swept away from the construction site and fell down, blocking almost the entire cross-section of Nguyen Du street in front of the facility.
At the time of the incident, there were many people and vehicles circulating on Nguyen Du street.
Fortunately, when the corrugated iron roof fell, a large truck was stopping to deliver goods at the opposite dealership. Part of the corrugated iron roof was stuck on the truck roof, the rest leaned against the roadside fence, so it did not fall directly onto the road surface. The incident did not cause any casualties.
Immediately after receiving the information, Dong Ha Ward Police sent forces to protect the scene and regulate traffic. Manpower was also mobilized to cut down the corrugated iron roof and beams, quickly clear the road and ensure safety for people and vehicles passing through.
According to the meteorological agency in Quang Tri, in recent days, the southern area of the province has been affected by southwest winds, often called Lao winds, with strong intensity.
In Dong Ha, from the night of August 28 to the morning of August 29, wind speeds recorded were about 13-16m/s, equivalent to level 6-7 according to the Beaufort scale.
