On the morning of May 14, the Project Management Board, Urban Infrastructure Construction Investment of Ho Chi Minh City coordinated with the People's Committee of Go Vap District to organize a groundbreaking ceremony for the project to renovate the drainage system of Nguyen Van Khoi and Le Van Tho streets.
The project is located in Wards 8, 11, 14, 15 and 16 of Go Vap District, in a densely populated residential area with high traffic density, often experiencing flooding due to the impact of heavy rain and overloaded drainage systems.
The project scale is nearly 5 km long, included in the overall planning of the Ho Chi Minh City drainage system until 2020 approved by the Prime Minister in Decision 752.
The main projects include taking advantage of the existing sewer system, installing new sewers along the route, renovating road surfaces and sidewalks. The total investment is about 352 billion VND, from the city budget, expected to be completed in 2026.
Mr. Van Phu Thai - Deputy Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Urban Infrastructure Construction Investment Project Management Board - said that the project is invested with the expectation of improving drainage capacity, solving flooding problems in the area, improving environmental sanitation conditions, ensuring traffic safety, and at the same time contributing to raising the urban aesthetics and quality of life for local people.
Mr. Thai also emphasized that the Management Board has identified this as a key project to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South, National Reunification and the 135th anniversary of President Ho Chi Minh's birth.
At the groundbreaking ceremony, Ms. Nguyen Thi Doan Trang - Vice Chairman of Go Vap District People's Committee - affirmed that the project plays a key role in the urban development process, contributing to improving flooding and improving the quality of life for local people.
"Go Vap District has identified this as a key project, so it will actively coordinate, speed up the construction progress, ensure safety, and comply with legal regulations," said Ms. Trang.
Currently, many important routes such as Nguyen Van Khoi, Le Van Tho, Pham Van Chieu often face traffic jams and flooding, causing significant impacts on people's lives and activities, so project implementation becomes even more urgent.
Having lived on Nguyen Van Khoi Street (Go Vap District) for many years, witnessing the scene of people having to wade through water every time there is prolonged heavy rain, affecting their daily lives and business, Mr. Vu Trong Son (residing in Go Vap District) hopes the project will be completed soon so that people's lives can be stable.
"Every time it rains heavily, the water floods everywhere, even into people's houses, vehicles stall, it is very difficult to walk home. Hearing the news of the water drainage project starting construction, everyone was happy," said Mr. Son.
