On the afternoon of September 17, Ha Long City (Quang Ninh) held a conference to summarize the 7-day and night campaign to overcome the consequences of storm No. 3.
Attending the conference were Mr. Dang Xuan Phuong, Deputy Secretary of Quang Ninh Provincial Party Committee, Head of the Provincial National Assembly Delegation.
Storm No. 3 caused severe damage to Ha Long City, with 4 deaths, more than 200 injuries, thousands of houses with blown roofs, hundreds of households evacuated, infrastructure severely damaged, tens of thousands of hectares of forest and trees damaged. Total damage is estimated at thousands of billions of VND.
Ha Long City will deploy the Recovery Campaign from September 9 to 15, divided into 2 phases. Phase 1 (from September 9 to 11) will focus on handling and cleaning up fallen trees and electric poles along main roads and in residential areas, ensuring safety, smooth traffic and environmental sanitation. Phase 2 (from September 12 to 15) will handle and repair damage to works, facilities and other damages, in order to soon stabilize people's lives, restore production, business and tourism services.
In 7 days, the city mobilized nearly 65,000 people, 2,000 vehicles, established 541 volunteer teams to trim tens of thousands of trees, clean up more than 1,000 roads, restore over 90% of electricity, water, and telecommunications systems, and collect 12,000 tons of garbage.
Ha Long City has also provided emergency support of VND14 billion to 33 communes and wards. Currently, 100% of schools have resumed operations. The city continues to focus on cleaning, urban beautification, damage assessment and implementation of support policies, while implementing infrastructure development and urban management projects.
On this occasion, the City People's Committee commended outstanding individuals and groups in overcoming the consequences of storm No. 3.
