According to information from the Ha Long City Construction Investment Project Management Board, the Hon Gai Fishing Port project, combining a storm shelter anchorage area and a fishing logistics area, is being planned in the Cai Xa Cong anchorage area, Ha Phong ward, Ha Long city.
The new fishing port is planned to be 61.62 hectares wide, including: a harbor, a storm shelter area for about 600 ships, a fishing logistics area, an ancient fishing village museum, a waiting room for tourists and crew, a parking lot, and a traffic system and dredging to clear the flow of Khe Ca stream. The total estimated investment is 600 billion VND.
Hon Gai fishing port is classified as a type 2 fishing port, expected to be able to receive 90 30m long ships per day, with seafood output through the port reaching about 15,000 tons/year.
The water area at the port is more than 10 hectares, the port is more than 2.5 hectares. The shipping channel connects the port to the national inland waterway system, meeting the activities of fishing vessels with a maximum length of 30m, and is also a safe storm shelter for fishing vessels of similar size.
Currently, the Ha Long City Construction Investment Project Management Board is appraising the 1/500 detailed planning. It is expected that in November 2024, a feasibility study report will be prepared and comments will be collected from relevant ministries and branches to implement the next steps.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Loan - Manager of Cai Xa Cong Anchorage Area said: This is a safe storm shelter for fishermen because it is surrounded by wind-blocking mountains. However, due to silting of the channel, boats entering and leaving Cai Xa Cong storm shelter face many difficulties.
Through actual measurements, the channel height only reaches from -0.5m to +0.5m, not ensuring a safe depth for ships entering and leaving the port.
The Hon Gai fishing port project is implemented not only to solve the current degradation of the Cai Xa Cong anchorage but also to provide essential logistics services, support fishermen to go offshore, promote the fishing industry in exploitation and processing. Ensure safety for boats during the rainy and stormy season and contribute to the sustainable development of the fishing industry in the region.
