Hanoi finalizes the start date of construction of 2 97,500 billion VND metro lines

Hanoi plans to start construction of metro line 2 and metro line 5, with a total investment of about VND97,500 billion on October 10 and December 19, respectively.

On July 17, the Office of the City People's Committee issued Official Letter No. 10999/VP-DT announcing the direction of Vice Chairman of the City People's Committee Duong Duc Tuan on urgently organizing the implementation of the contents and tasks of investment projects to build urban railway lines to start construction in 2025.

Accordingly, the City People's Committee received Report No. 39/BC-DDDT-KHTH dated July 11, 2025 from the Urban Railway Management Board on reviewing the progress of urban railway projects starting construction in 2025.

Regarding this, Vice Chairman of the City People's Committee Duong Duc Tuan requested the city's departments, branches, People's Committees of communes, wards and units to urgently and seriously implement the direction of the Chairman of the City People's Committee in Notice No. 414/TB-VP dated July 8, 2025 of the City People's Committee Office, ensuring the progress of the start of investment projects to build urban railway lines to start construction in 2025: Line No. 2, Nam Thang Long - Tran Hung Dao on October 10, 2025 and Line No. 5, Van Cao - Hoa Lac on December 19, 2025. Timely advise, propose, and report to the City People's Committee to remove difficulties and obstacles (if any).

Request the Urban Railway Management Board to focus, preside over, and closely coordinate with the city's departments, branches, People's Committees of communes, wards, and related units, urgently implement the direction of the Chairman of the City People's Committee in Notice No. 414/TB VP dated July 8, 2025 of the City People's Committee Office, deploy investment projects to build urban railway lines starting in 2025 to ensure the required progress.

Metro Line 2, Nam Thang Long - Tran Hung Dao section, is 11.5km long, with 8.9km underground and 2.6km elevated. This metro line has 7 underground stations and 3 elevated stations.

The total preliminary investment of the project is nearly VND35,600 billion, an increase of more than VND16,000 billion compared to the investment policy first approved in 2008.

The starting point of the project is Nam Thang Long along Nguyen Van Huyen extended road - Hoang Quoc Viet - Hoang Hoa Tham - Thuy Khue - Phan Dinh Phung - Hang Giay - Hang Duong - Hang Ngang - Hang Dao - Dinh Tien Hoang - Hang Bai; the end point intersects with Tran Hung Dao street.

Metro Line 5 has a total investment of about more than VND 61,900 billion. The project starts at the Van Cao - Hoang Hoa Tham intersection, the end point of the route is at the Hoa Lac intersection towards Phu Tho (old Hoa Binh) 5km.

The total length of the project is more than 38km in the direction of Van Cao - Ngoc Khanh - Thang Long Avenue - Ring Road 4 - Hoa Lac (about 6km underground, about 2km elevated and about 30km flat). This line has 21 stations including 6 underground stations and 15 floating stations.
