Hanoi focuses resources on flood prevention projects

The city is focusing its efforts on implementing emergency flood control projects, determined to fundamentally solve the urban drainage problem.

Urgently deploy a series of projects

According to Lao Dong's current records, at the Thuy Phuong canal renovation project, dozens of vehicles, machinery, and workers are working urgently. The Thuy Phuong canal renovation project aims to replenish the Red River for the To Lich River, increase flow to maintain flow, improve pollution, create landscape and support drainage.

To date, the contractor has poured concrete for pile top girders of about 100m, constructed more than 800m out of a total of over 1,300m of concrete piles. The box culvert line from Hoang Minh Thao, Vo Chi Cong streets to To Lich river, 3.9km long, is being fenced, cut roads, and peeled off the road surface for construction. The main item is expected to be completed before April 30; the remaining items are expected to be completed no later than June 30.

Similarly, the project to renovate and upgrade drainage works near Hoa Binh Park is also being urgently implemented. In the project area, bulldozers and excavators are excavating soil and installing culverts. The project aims to treat flooding in Resco, Ecohome, Tay Ho Tay, Doan Ngoai Giao, Ciputra urban areas and Vo Chi Cong, Long Bien, Dong Anh, Gia Lam areas.

At Bidding Package No. 49 for the construction of a sewer system for the Lu River under the Yen Xa wastewater treatment system project, the Project Management Board is requesting the contractor to accelerate and strive to basically complete it in 2026. The contractor has committed to mobilizing additional manpower and equipment, organizing construction in 3 shifts and 4 teams, xuyên lễ, xuyên Tết.

In addition to the above projects, Hanoi is also implementing the Project to increase the capacity of the pumping station, build culverts along Thang Long Avenue; Yen Nghia 1 and 2 regulating lake; Me Tri headwater lake; Yen Xa wastewater treatment system project...

High concentration on construction of items

In a recent inspection, Chairman of Hanoi People's Committee Vu Dai Thang acknowledged the high sense of responsibility of the investor, contractor and construction force when organizing work throughout Tet, maintaining pace at the construction site. Many construction teams have been deployed in 3 shifts and 4 teams, mobilizing manpower and equipment right from the first days of the new year.

According to the Chairman of the City People's Committee, the start of drilling, excavating and constructing embankments immediately after the holiday is considered a positive signal, creating momentum to complete the 2026 target.
Along with the requirements for progress, the head of the city government especially noted the work of ensuring labor safety, environmental sanitation and construction site security and order.The construction process must strictly comply with technical regulations, have measures to cover, divert traffic, and minimize the impact on the lives of people in the project area.

The Chairman of the City People's Committee also requested units to strengthen coordination with local authorities to promptly remove obstacles in site clearance, technical infrastructure and organize construction, strive to complete the set progress milestones, and soon promote the effectiveness of projects in flood prevention, environmental improvement and improving the quality of urban infrastructure.
