On the morning of March 28, at Thong Nhat Park (Hanoi), the Launching Ceremony to respond to the Earth Hour campaign, the summer peak on energy saving and efficiency in 2026 in Hanoi City took place.
This is an extremely meaningful activity organized annually by the Hanoi Department of Industry and Trade in coordination with the Department of Innovation, Green Transformation and Industrial Promotion - Ministry of Industry and Trade, the Department of Innovation - Ministry of Science and Technology, Hanoi Power Corporation to maintain and promote activities and movements to use energy economically and efficiently with strong spillover effects in the community, honoring collectives and individuals living in the city to actively participate and contribute to ensuring electricity supply, joining hands to save energy, save resources, and protect a sustainable living environment.
Speaking at the launching ceremony, Mr. Nguyen Dinh Thang - Deputy Director of Hanoi Department of Industry and Trade said that in the period 2021-2025, with the efforts of all levels and sectors, the companionship of businesses and people, the City achieved many energy achievements such as: Total energy saving reached 705.7 kTOE, reaching 8.26% compared to forecasted demand; total rooftop solar power capacity installed in the city is 118MWp; putting into stable operation Soc Son and Seraphin waste-to-energy plants with a total capacity of 127 MW.
In 2026, according to hydrometeorological forecasts and assessments of weather trends, our country will be affected by prolonged and early El Nino, leading to increased temperatures and droughts that may have a significant impact on hydropower sources.
To ensure safety and security of energy supply, especially during peak heat waves, in addition to macro solutions to balance sources and regulate load, economical and efficient use of electricity through practical actions is a positive and extremely important solution at the present time and in the upcoming peak months, contributing to completing Hanoi City's plan target in 2026: Achieving energy savings from 1.6%-1.8% compared to the forecast demand level, of which achieving a minimum savings of 2.2% of total electricity consumption for each consumption area; reducing power grid losses by less than 3.5%.
The program includes many activities such as a launching ceremony, signing commitments to shift electricity load, experiencing renewable energy models, a space to display green solutions and community art activities. The highlight of the campaign is the Earth Hour response lights out event taking place from 8:30 PM to 9:30 PM.

However, we also face a series of challenges such as climate change, broken global supply chains and pressure on energy security due to geopolitical fluctuations. This is both a challenge but also an opportunity for us to promote new technologies, green technologies. Reducing energy consumption and carbon emissions not only helps protect the environment but also directly enhances the competitiveness of Vietnamese businesses when exporting to international markets.
