Functional forces of Hoan Kiem ward suddenly inspected the beef wholesale area on Pham Thien Thuat street at night, discovering many violations of urban order and food safety.
In the early morning of May 8, functional forces of Hoan Kiem ward (Hanoi) suddenly inspected the beef business area on Pham Thien Thuat street, which is one of the largest beef wholesale points, operating for many years in the Capital. Immediately after functional forces arrived, the entire beef trading area temporarily stopped operating, goods were hidden in houses, small alleys or in cars moved elsewhere.

According to reporters of Lao Dong Newspaper, most of the beef here is transported from Vinh Phuc (Phu Tho) and Thuong Tin (Hanoi) for gathering and sorting before being distributed to restaurants and small traders at the market.

At the time of inspection, many business locations displayed meat directly on wooden planks or thin nylon layers placed on the sidewalk. In particular, beef bones were placed right on the ground to be chopped, posing a risk of food safety and hygiene. Some shop owners even put their feet on the stalls to sell goods, not ensuring hygiene.

Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Doan To - Deputy Head of Hoan Kiem Ward Police said that functional forces will handle cases of encroachment on roads and sidewalks according to regulations. At the same time, business households are also propagated not to trade encroaching on sidewalks; goods must have clear origins and ensure food safety and hygiene according to legal regulations.
Through inspection, many cargo owners could not present business registration certificates, violating regulations on urban order and food safety. Specifically, Ms. P.T. M. H said that the goods were imported from a slaughterhouse in Phu Xuyen (Hanoi), but Ms. H. could not provide a veterinary quarantine certificate to the inspection team. This person only presented images of the supplier's slaughter business certificate stored in her phone.

According to regulations, the act of trading, preliminary processing or slaughtering animals without a veterinary hygiene certificate or using an expired certificate may be fined from 8 - 10 million VND.

In addition, many people in the inspection area said that they only worked as hired laborers for the owner of the goods, so they did not know the origin of the goods. Some cases could not present citizen identification cards with the reason of forgetting them at home due to the rain. However, functional forces still made records and requested violators to sign confirmation.
After being propagated and explained, the related individuals complied and signed the minutes.
Talking to a reporter of Lao Dong Newspaper, Mr. Ngo Anh Toan - Head of the Economic, Infrastructure and Urban Department of Hoan Kiem ward said that according to the provisions of the Law on Handling of Administrative Violations, when violations are detected, functional agencies will inspect, make records of penalties and invite relevant cargo owners to work to handle them in accordance with legal regulations.
