In the afternoon of August 27, in an exchange with a reporter from Lao Dong Newspaper, the Commander of Thuong Tin Commune Police (Hanoi City) confirmed that an incident had just occurred in Thuy Ung village where a man was struck by lightning and died.
According to the Commander of Thuong Tin Commune Police, after the incident, the victim's relatives were present at the scene and lay crying. This image caused some people to misunderstand, from which information appeared on social networks that 4 people were struck by lightning.
Information that lightning struck 4 people to death is inaccurate. The incident only involved one man who died from being struck by lightning.
Immediately after discovering the incident, local people informed the authorities.
Also on August 27, the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting said that through monitoring satellite images, lightning positioning data and weather radar images, convective clouds are causing showers and thunderstorms in most communes and wards in the inner city of Hanoi.
The meteorological agency warns that thunderstorms are likely to occur with tornadoes, lightning and strong gusts of wind. People need to proactively prevent, limit movement or shelter under trees and unsafe structures when there are thunderstorms and lightning.
