Hanoi City People's Committee requests urgent review of all urban railway lines under operation, and immediately handle damaged and degraded items to ensure safe operation.
According to the request, relevant units urgently inspect, review and handle damaged, degraded, and potentially unsafe items on all urban railway lines under operation, ensuring operational safety, traffic safety and urban aesthetics.
Accordingly, the Hanoi People's Committee assigned the Department of Construction to coordinate with Hanoi Railway Company Limited to organize a comprehensive review of construction items showing signs of damage, degradation or potential safety risks on operating urban railway lines.
Units are responsible for immediately handling existing issues under their authority; and at the same time reporting to the Hanoi People's Committee for contents beyond their authority for timely consideration and direction. Inspection and rectification must be implemented urgently and effectively, not allowing risks to arise affecting the safety of works, safety of operation and exploitation, traffic safety and urban aesthetics.
This move aims to strengthen inspection and risk prevention for the urban railway system in the context that the network is increasingly playing an important role in the capital's public passenger transport.
Proactively detecting and overcoming damage early will contribute to limiting the risk of incidents, ensuring safe and continuous operation, and at the same time enhancing people's trust in modern public transport.
Previously, records by reporters of Construction Newspaper at some stations on the Cat Linh - Ha Dong urban railway line showed that many items no longer maintained their synchronous and modern appearance as when they were newly put into operation. At many locations, escalators stopped operating, glass railings were cracked and broken, and panels peeled off.
