At the end of the year, many key streets and traffic junctions in the Capital are being accelerated to renovate infrastructure, trim sidewalks, and expand roadways to reduce congestion and renovate the city before the New Year.
Records of Lao Dong Newspaper reporters show that on routes such as Le Van Luong, Huynh Thuc Khang, Nguyen Chi Thanh, Nguy Nhu Kon Tum..., workers and machinery are constructing sidewalk renovation and road surface expansion.
At the Le Van Luong - Hoang Minh Giam - Nguyen Tuan intersection, where there is a very large traffic volume during peak hours, most items are deployed at night to limit impacts on people. During the day, mainly transporting materials and maintaining barriers to serve night construction.

Similarly, the Huynh Thuc Khang - Nguyen Chi Thanh, Nguy Nhu Kon Tum - Vu Trong Phung intersections are also organized for flexible construction according to time frames, prioritizing the evening for items occupying the road surface.
Representatives of the Traffic Infrastructure Maintenance Board (Hanoi Department of Construction) said that in 2025, the city will implement a project to improve infrastructure and adjust traffic organization at 11-12 intersections that are frequently congested. Solutions focus on expanding road surfaces, adjusting medians, traffic islands, reorganizing lanes and traffic light cycles to increase traffic flow.
Sidewalk cutting is calculated separately for each location, not done simultaneously. Depending on actual conditions, sidewalks are cut about 1-2 m to widen right and left lanes or main traffic directions that are overloaded. In parallel, there are synchronous measures such as repaining road surfaces, adding signs, railway lines, relocating green trees and technical infrastructure to serve the new traffic organization plan.
To date, 6 intersections have been completed for renovation, including: Dinh Thon - Pham Hung; Vu Quynh - Me Tri; lane 171 Nguyen Xien; lane Hoa Binh 7 - Minh Khai; Chu Huy Man - Nguyen Lam; Co Linh - Thach Ban. The remaining intersections are being accelerated to be completed soon.

However, at some construction sites, construction materials are still gathered on sidewalks and temporary barriers, causing the pedestrian path to narrow, and at times pedestrians have to go down to the road.
People expressed their agreement with the policy of expanding the road surface to reduce congestion, but wished the construction to be neat, ensure safety and keep a reasonable space for pedestrians. Many opinions believe that sidewalk cutting is only a short-term solution; long-term effectiveness needs to be assessed in the context that the traffic volume of personal vehicles in Hanoi continues to increase.
In the coming time, organizing reasonable construction, ensuring safety and soon completing the site is considered a key factor for intersection renovation projects to be effective and reduce traffic pressure during the peak period at the end of the year and in the following years.
Talking to Lao Dong Newspaper reporters, Mr. Dam Quang Bao - Director of the Hanoi City Traffic Works Maintenance Board (Department of Construction, Hanoi) said that the projects are currently being implemented according to the plan of the Hanoi City People's Committee.
Also according to Mr. Bao, in 2025, projects are deployed early and constructed at night, so it also has little impact on people's travel. Currently, most of the works are being completed, only the area of lane 15 Ngoc Hoi related to the emergency road opening order to reduce traffic congestion will be neat tonight (December 30). "From now until the end of the 2026 Binh Ngo Lunar New Year, sidewalk road construction will not be deployed, except in emergency cases," Mr. Bao said.
