With a total investment of more than 3,400 billion VND, An Phu intersection is a key project at the eastern gateway of Ho Chi Minh City. Currently, the HC1-02 underpass item has reached more than 90% of the volume, the construction site is lit day and night to be ready for traffic on January 31, 2026. It is expected that by the second quarter of 2026, the entire super project will be completed, with the expectation of completely removing the vital traffic bottleneck.

According to reporters' records on January 28, the working atmosphere at the An Phu intersection construction site is urgent. Currently, contractors are maximizing time, mobilizing total personnel and equipment to complete the final stages. On the construction site, a series of tower cranes, chain axle cranes, excavators and rollers are operating continuously, creating an urgent working atmosphere.

At the access roads to the tunnel, many sections have completed asphalt paving, creating a complete appearance. The last layers of asphalt are being paved in the remaining sections by specialized vehicles.

Observing inside the tunnel, technical items are also entering the final stage. Workers' teams are actively installing drainage systems, lighting poles and fire prevention and fighting equipment. The goal is that as soon as the asphalt layer and paint lines are completed, the underpass can operate immediately.
HC1-02 underpass is about 760m long with a scale of 4 lanes. This is a branch directly connecting the Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh - Dau Giay expressway with Mai Chi Tho Avenue (direction to Thu Thiem tunnel). To ensure absolute safety when put into operation, the project is designed synchronously with lighting, fire prevention and fighting (PCCC), pumping station and modern drainage system.

As a "hot spot" of traffic jams in the eastern area, the fact that each item of An Phu intersection reaches the finish line is of great significance. Previously, the operation of the N2 overpass branch initially helped separate traffic flow from the expressway, reducing pressure on the central area.

According to the plan, immediately after the HC1-02 underpass is opened to traffic at the end of January, the N3 overpass branch (direction from Mai Chi Tho turning left to Dong Van Cong) is also expected to reach the finish line in the first quarter of 2026. The synchronous operation of this "double" is considered a decisive turning point, expected to reduce congestion by up to 80%, fundamentally solving the problem of traffic congestion for many years at the gateway to Ho Chi Minh City.
