On the morning of January 12, the Standing Committee of the City Youth Union, the Secretariat of the Vietnam Youth Union Committee of Hue City coordinated with Hue Central Hospital, Hue University, the Red Cross Society and the Executive Committee of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha of Hue City to organize the opening ceremony of the 17th "Red Sunday" in 2025.
Secretary of Hue City Youth Union Nguyen Thanh Hoai said that over the past 17 years, no matter where it is organized, Red Sunday has always done well in two tasks: Mobilizing the maximum number of donated blood units to meet the demand for blood for medical treatment and saving lives and strongly spreading the spirit of voluntary blood donation. In which, union members and young people are always the core force, actively participating and mobilizing the community to donate blood to save lives.
From 2022 to present, more than 5,000 union members and young people have donated over 4,200 units of blood through blood donation campaigns. The models of "Living Blood Bank", "Pink Birthday" Club, Youth Team for promoting voluntary blood donation and the "Voluntary Blood Donation" movement have attracted a large number of young people to participate. From there, promoting the blood donation movement to become increasingly high-quality and effective in Hue City.
Red Sunday 2025 will be implemented in two phases, including: Voluntary blood donation week from January 6 to 10 at the Hematology - Blood Transfusion Center (Hue Central Hospital); opening activities combined with blood donation, tissue and organ donation on January 12 at Hue University.
The voluntary blood donation week attracted nearly 300 participants, collecting 220 units of blood. On the morning of January 12, the Organizing Committee received blood donation registrations from 968 people; striving to reach the target of collecting more than 700 units of blood by the end of the day (higher than in 2024), to ensure blood reserves, serve emergency patients, and at the same time solve the blood shortage that often occurs after the Lunar New Year.
On January 12, 510 people registered and 405 units of blood were collected. In total, 624 units of blood were donated. The number of people who registered to donate organs and tissues this morning was 28.
