Deadly danger when students make firecrackers according to social media

Da Nang police have continuously discovered students learning from clips on the internet to make firecrackers at home. There have been cases of homemade firecracker explosions leaving deadly consequences and permanent injuries.

Accidents are no longer isolated cases

On the afternoon of the 30th of Tet two years ago, a small house in Duy Xuyen commune, Da Nang was shaken by a violent explosion. Homemade firecrackers suddenly exploded when two students were struggling to "tester the product", following the instructions on the internet. The incident left haunting consequences until today: One child suffered crushed hands, severe burns all over the body, serious injuries to the face and eyes; the other child died in the hospital due to severe injuries. The entire corrugated iron roof of the house was also blown away by pressure. T.H. T, then only 16 years old, still remembers the terrifying moment.

“I just followed the clip on the internet, thinking it was a small firecracker, it's okay. When it exploded, I didn't have time to react, I only felt my hand aching, blood flowing profusely” - T. If the amount of explosives was greater, the consequences could spread to adjacent houses.

In recent years, especially at the end of each year, hospitals in Da Nang have continuously received emergency cases related to homemade firecrackers, averaging from 16 - 20 cases.

Doctor Tran Van Phuc - Emergency Department of Quang Nam General Hospital - said that many cases are hospitalized in a state of crushed hands, completely losing the ability to move; there are cases of eye damage leading to permanent blindness.

The common point of the victims is their very young age, mainly students and teenagers. They make firecrackers at home, in rented rooms or warehouses, completely without safety knowledge. Just a small mistake when mixing chemicals, or the amount of medicine exceeding the limit, an explosion can happen at any time.

According to reporters' records, many accidents occur right at the time when functional forces are "stretching themselves" to ensure security and order at the end of the year. Homemade fireworks not only cause injuries to workers, but also pose a risk of fire and explosion spreading to neighboring houses, causing danger to the entire residential area.

Strongly handle from the root

Near Binh Ngo Tet 2026, the police in Da Nang continuously discovered and handled many cases of storing and manufacturing homemade firecrackers right in residential areas, including many students. Worryingly, the purchase and sale of chemical precursors to explosives is not too difficult. With just a few clicks, buyers can order chemicals advertised as "serving experiments", "used in learning", but in fact enough to make firecrackers.

Recently, Hoa Khanh Ward Police discovered 2 secondary school students, N.D. N. H (born 2014) and T.D. B (born 2013), storing materials and making homemade firecrackers, stemming from watching and following instructional clips circulating on social networks.

With just a smartphone and 250,000 VND, the two children ordered materials, learned from videos with the simple thought of bringing them to school to burn for fun," a representative of the Ward Police said.

Similarly, Chien Dan Commune Police promptly discovered two secondary school students storing materials and making homemade firecrackers. At the scene, the police seized 20 homemade firecrackers, with diameters from 5cm to 20cm. The children confessed to "burning for fun", not fully understanding the level of danger as well as legal consequences.

Statistics from functional forces show that in just a short time before Tet, a series of cases related to homemade firecrackers have been administratively sanctioned; even some cases have been considered for criminal responsibility due to the large number of firecrackers and high level of danger. Worryingly, many cases were discovered when firecrackers were completed and ready to explode in crowded residential areas.

Implementing the direction of the Director of Da Nang City Police, many units launched a peak period of attacking and suppressing violations related to firecrackers. In Hoi An ward, through patrols and inspections, the task force discovered D.P. P (born 1994) and B.V. Q (born 1994) committing acts of trading and storing firecrackers. Based on Decree 98/2020/ND-CP, the ward police made a record, temporarily seized exhibits; then issued a decision to administratively fine a total of 47.5 million VND, confiscating all exhibits.

In parallel with handling violations, functional forces promote propaganda, mobilization and tighten management from supply sources. The Department of Police for Administrative Management of Social Order (QLHC on TTXH), Da Nang City Police organized a conference to sign commitments with 18 fireworks businesses in the area.

Senior Lieutenant Colonel Ha The Xuyen - Head of the Department of Administrative Management of Social Order - emphasized: Businesses are only allowed to trade fireworks with clear origin; strictly implement sales conditions, manage invoices and books; ensure fire safety; absolutely do not take advantage of trading and storing illegal firecrackers.
