The 8:30 am news on September 24 of the Thanh Hoa Hydrometeorological Station said that on the morning of September 24, the flood on the rivers had peaked and was slowly receding. Particularly, the downstream of the Buoi River in Kim Tan town (Thach Thanh) and the downstream of the Cau Chay River in Xuan Vinh (Tho Xuan) were rising. It is forecasted that in the next 6 hours, the flood downstream of the Buoi River in Kim Tan will rise a little, then fluctuate at the peak level.
The water level of Chu River has dropped, at Bai Thuong it is 16.82m, 0.32m above alarm level 2; at Xuan Khanh it is 8.96m, 0.4m below alarm level 1.
The reason the Chu River water level has dropped is because the rain has stopped, and the flood discharge at Cua Dat Lake (Thuong Xuan) has also decreased to 2,000m3/s.
Therefore, according to observations, from last night to this morning (September 24), the water level of Cong Chu below the foot of the suspension bridge to Ban Ma has dropped by more than 1 meter. The suspension bridge to the famous community tourism village of Thanh Hoa is still safe, people can travel.
However, local authorities are restricting traffic to ensure the safety of the bridge and people's lives.
Ban Ma used to belong to Xuan Cam commune, now is Thuong Xuan district town, Thanh Hoa province. Ban Ma is about 60km west of Thanh Hoa city. Currently, the village has 246 people, 100% of whom are Thai ethnic people.
Ma village used to be isolated on the Chu River. To trade, people had to use rafts and boats to cross the Chu River to the outside. The lives of people in Ma village at that time faced many difficulties, most of them were poor households. In 2016, the suspension bridge was completed and put into use, a breakthrough, helping the lives of people in Ma village turn a new page.
Ban Ma has now become a community tourism village that "attracts" tourists from all over. Currently, the village has more than 30 ancient stilt houses that are being preserved and maintained, along with traditional crafts such as embroidery, brocade weaving, knitting... Ban Ma has a pristine beauty imbued with the cultural identity of the Thai ethnic group.
