Tham Luong - Ben Cat - Rach Nuoc Len canal is nearly 32km long, flowing through 7 districts including: District 12, Binh Tan, Tan Phu, Tan Binh, Go Vap, Binh Thanh and Binh Chanh.
The project started in February 2023, with the main items including: Construction of concrete embankments on both sides of the canal; dredging the canal bed, improving drainage capacity; building 7-12m wide parallel roads on both sides of the canal; installing drainage, lighting, and tree systems; building 19 drainage culverts, 12 boat docks and 3 connecting bridges.

Initially, the total investment of the project was 8,200 billion VND, then adjusted to more than 9,000 billion VND. According to the plan, the project is expected to be completed by the end of 2025.
According to the reporter, at the XL10 package (part of the Tham Luong - Ben Cat - Nuoc Len canal renovation project) passing through Go Vap district, District 12, the construction unit is mobilizing workers and engineers to speed up the project items.
According to the representative of the contractor constructing the XL7, XL9, XL10 packages (from Tham Luong Bridge to Cho Cau Bridge, Truong Dai Bridge to Saigon River) under the Tham Luong - Ben Cat - Nuoc Len canal renovation project.
To date, the construction volume has reached 30%. There are over 300 people, hundreds of equipment and specialized vehicles working at the construction site.
The goal is to open 3/8km of the road running along both sides of the canal by April 30, 2025; by September 2, 2025, an additional 5km will be completed. It is expected that by December 31, 2025, the project will be completed and handed over to the investor.

According to the Ho Chi Minh City Urban Infrastructure Construction Investment Project Management Board (investor), after one year of construction, the Tham Luong - Ben Cat - Rach Nuoc Len canal renovation project has reached 50% of the workload.
However, progress is being hampered by 25 cases of land not yet handed over or re-encroachment. To solve the problem, the Ho Chi Minh City Urban Infrastructure Construction Investment Project Management Board recommends that the People's Committees of relevant districts and towns soon develop a plan to reclaim the site and hand it over to the contractor in February 2025.
According to the plan, the project is expected to complete the entire canal line by the end of 2025, instead of April 2024 as previously planned.
When completed, this canal will become the main drainage axis for nearly 15,000 hectares of the surrounding area, while helping to reduce traffic pressure on National Highway 1 thanks to two routes along the canal.
The project also creates conditions for the development of waterway transportation, connecting Ho Chi Minh City with Long An through Cho Dem River and with Dong Nai and Binh Duong through Saigon River.
