In early September, at the Phuoc An bridge construction site across Thi Vai river (HCMC - Dong Nai), hundreds of engineers, workers and a team of superheavy equipment were working busily. The first cable-stayed cable package has just been stretched at the T38 pillar, marking an important step forward for the project worth nearly VND4,900 billion.
According to the Cai Mep - Thi Vai Regional Traffic Project Management Board, the cable-stayed extension is considered a decisive technical milestone, opening the contract stage. To date, the main bridge has completed more than 61% of the volume. Two towers hundreds of meters high in the middle of the riverbed are basically taking shape, ready to join in. In package No. 38, the approach bridge section in Phu My ward (HCMC), many items have been completed, more than 160/370 SuperT girders have been installed, the bridge surface is gradually becoming clear. All site clearance work on the Ho Chi Minh City side has also been completed, creating favorable conditions for the contractor to speed up the construction.
A representative of the Project Management Board said that the main bridge package is mobilizing more than 350 engineers and workers, along with many tower cranes and cranes with a super load capacity of 250 - 350 tons. Thanks to the application of advanced technology, the project is likely to be completed at least 6 months ahead of schedule, expected to be technically open to traffic by the end of 2026 instead of mid-2027. According to the design, Phuoc An Bridge is 4.38km long (over 3.5km on the bridge, the rest is the approach road), 6 lanes wide, and an operating speed of 70km/h. The bridge has a clearance of 55m, allowing a 30,000-ton ship to travel, with a main span of 250m - the largest in Southeast Asia.
In contrast to the urgent atmosphere in Ho Chi Minh City, two packages 40 and 41 in Dong Nai have just started construction of bored piles and reinforced foundations. Site clearance is still stuck: only 3.82ha has been handed over, while 2.91ha of forest land must be converted to other purposes. Dong Nai province committed to handing over the entire site in the third quarter of 2025 to ensure progress.

When completed, Phuoc An Bridge will directly connect Cai Mep - Thi Vai port cluster with Ben Luc - Long Thanh expressway, reducing pressure on National Highway 51, while shortening 30km of freight transportation from the West to the seaport.
