Enthusiastic construction despite exceeding schedule
At the construction site of Phuoc An Bridge, workers are busy working in the cold air of Ba Ria - Vung Tau province on the days before Lunar New Year 2025. Phuoc An Bridge project has a total length of about 4,378m, with a total investment of about 4,877 billion VND from the central and local budgets with 5 main packages. Currently, two packages 38 and 39 deployed in Ba Ria - Vung Tau province are under construction ahead of schedule.
In particular, package No. 38 is to construct and install the approach bridge from the beginning of the route on the Ba Ria - Vung Tau side to the T36-T37 approach pillar, with an implementation time of 1,075 days from December 2022; to date, the construction output has reached about 500 billion VND (nearly 52%).
Package 39, construction and installation of the main bridge from pier T37 to pier T40 (including waterway traffic regulation), has a construction period of 1,440 days from June 2023; to date, the construction output has reached about 611 billion VND (nearly 39%).
Mr. Luu Xuan Tuyen - Deputy Director of the Executive Board of the Trung Nam - Trung Chinh Joint Venture Contractor (construction of package 39) - said that at the construction site of package 39, there are about 200 workers working hard day and night. The progress is ahead of schedule, but the construction process is still going on busily even though Tet is near.
"The focus of package 39 is bridge piers numbered T38 and T39, which are under construction and have reached a height of about 64m above the water surface," said Mr. Tuyen.
Mr. Le Huu Hien - representative of the contractor for package 38 - said that more than 100 workers from the contractors are also busy constructing the approach bridge items, although the package is ensuring progress according to the set plan.
Looking forward to Tet, but must ensure safety on the construction site
According to Mr. Dang Thien Phong (from Thai Binh - worker of package 39), the closer Tet gets, the more anxious the workers at the construction site become, looking forward to the day off soon to go home and reunite with their families.
"Although we were very excited, we also encouraged each other to try our best and work hard in the last days, paying attention to ensuring safety during construction," said Mr. Phong.
Mr. Phong said that although he works in Phu My town, his work is very busy and continuous, so even when his mother visits relatives in Vung Tau city (about 70km from the construction site), he cannot meet her. So more than ever, Tet is an opportunity to visit his mother and relatives after a year of separation and hard work. Mr. Hung, a crane operator, said: "When operating the machine, we are very focused because the job requires precision and high concentration. When resting, we feel very anxious waiting for the day to go home for Tet."
According to Mr. Luu Xuan Tuyen, with Tet approaching, it is understandable that workers want to return to their hometowns, as most of the workers are in the Northern and North Central regions. Grasping this situation, the unit has announced the Tet holiday schedule early so that workers can work with peace of mind.
"Because the construction progress is exceeding the plan, workers in package 39 will start Tet holiday from the 26th of Lunar New Year, and return to work on the 8th of Lunar New Year. All benefits for workers are guaranteed," said Mr. Tuyen.
According to Mr. Hien, workers working on package 38 will also have Tet holiday from the 26th of the lunar calendar, and will gather on the 6th of the lunar calendar to prepare machinery and get ready for construction after Tet holiday.
