As Lao Dong reported, at 10:35 a.m. on September 28, at the Duong Huy Coal Company's mine, under the Vietnam National Coal - Mineral Industries Group (TKV), a gas incident occurred in the mine, injuring 2 workers and 3 workers of Dao Ho 3 Workshop, Mining Construction Company (also under TKV) - the unit constructing the mine road for Duong Huy Coal Company - to be stuck.
At 12:30 p.m. the same day, the authorities searched, rescued, and took the two injured to Quang Ninh General Hospital for emergency treatment. About 1 hour later, the remaining 3 workers were discovered and found, but all had died.
On the afternoon of September 28, Mr. Bui Van Khang - Chairman of the People's Committee of Quang Ninh province - visited and encouraged the injured workers currently being treated at Quang Ninh General Hospital. The health of both workers has stabilized, and are being treated and monitored in the Trauma Department.
The leaders of Quang Ninh province directed the Department of Health, the Vietnam National Coal and Mineral Industries Group, and the People's Committee of Mong Duong ward to support the families of injured and deceased workers to the maximum extent. Quang Ninh province has directed immediate support of 25 million VND/dead person.
Mr. Le Thanh Xuan - Chairman of the Vietnam Coal and Mineral Industries Group (TKV) said that in the immediate future, the Group and the TKV Trade Union will immediately support 70 million VND/case of death; in addition, there are many other policies of the Group, companies, and related units.
According to Mr. Xuan, tonight, representatives of the TKV Trade Union, the Mining Construction Company... will work with the families to take the 3 deceased workers back to their hometowns in Hai Phong, Lai Chau and Cao Bang to arrange the funeral.
