On the afternoon of September 23, Mai Chau District Police said that on the morning of the same day, a crack appeared on a high hill in the bamboo plantation area of Thanh Mai hamlet, Van Mai commune. The crack is about 40 meters long, 40cm wide, 1.4 meters deep and about 40 meters from the residential area.
Below the cracked area, there are 35 households, 135 people living, working and trading. There is a high risk of dangerous landslides in the weather conditions of continued heavy rain.
After receiving the information, Mai Chau district authorities held an urgent meeting with the authorities and people of Thanh Mai hamlet to discuss the evacuation plan. Mai Chau district People's Committee directed to unanimously move people out of the dangerous area.
On the same afternoon (September 23), speaking with Lao Dong, Mr. Kha Van Sanh, Chairman of the People's Committee of Van Mai commune, said that up to now, the forces have evacuated 35 households in the dangerous area to a safe place. These households are arranged to stay at relatives' houses, the cultural house and the Van Mai market area.
