People on Son La border urgently evacuated to avoid landslides

    Son La - Authorities have urgently evacuated 66 households with 344 people in the border district of Song Ma from areas at high risk of landslides to safety.

    On September 23, speaking with Lao Dong Newspaper reporter, Mr. Lo Van Hach - Chairman of Nam Ty Commune People's Committee (Song Ma district) informed that on September 22, due to the influence of storms and rains, a crack 40cm wide and about 60 meters long appeared on the top of the hill, about 700 meters from the residential area in Na Men village.

    This landslide location has a high risk of landslides, directly threatening the lives of 66 households and 344 people in Na Men village.

    As soon as receiving the information, the Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention, Search and Rescue of Song Ma district and Nam Ty commune made a plan to urgently evacuate households in areas at risk of landslides.

    According to Mr. Hach, by noon on September 23, 100% of households had been evacuated to a safe place. Some households were moved to temporary shelters and relatives' houses outside the danger zone.
