In Nam Hieu village, Hieu Giang commune, Quang Tri province, dozens of households in the Van Ninh - Cam Lo expressway resettlement area still face a shortage of clean water. Although they have lived in this resettlement area for more than 2 years, many families still have to use seriously polluted well water. This causes many difficulties in daily life and potential health risks.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Tao's family (60 years old) is one of the households most heavily affected. Ms. Tao said that after her family was moved to the resettlement area and built houses, she had to spend more money to drill a domestic water well.

However, the water from the pumped well is heavily contaminated with alum, has a cloudy yellow color and unpleasant odor, damages clothes and household items and cannot be used for cooking or bathing. Each month, Mrs. Tao's family has to spend about 300,000 VND to buy bottled clean water for use.
Ms. Pham Thi Thu Linh (54 years old) also encountered a similar situation. Her family had to drill the well themselves because the area does not have a clean water supply system. This water source is not only cloudy but also has a strong stench, causing Ms. Linh to spend more money to install a filtration system, but the water is still not guaranteed for daily life. Each month, her family has to spend more than 300,000 VND to buy clean water.

According to people's reflections, although the clean water supply system has been brought to their homes, it has not been connected to supply clean water to households. Moreover, some other items of the resettlement area such as roads and street lights are not yet completed, causing many difficulties in people's lives here.

According to the Cam Lo Commune Land Fund Development Project Management Board (Investor of Nam Hieu village resettlement area project), the water supply system for the resettlement area has been implemented at 95%. Currently, the construction unit has completed connection procedures and is waiting for receiving procedures from Quang Tri Clean Water Joint Stock Company.
The reason for the slow progress of the clean water supply system construction stems from many objective and subjective factors in the project implementation process. In which, compensation and site clearance work at some locations is still slow and not synchronously completed, so the contractor cannot continuously deploy construction according to the approved plan.

On the other hand, during the construction of the clean water supply pipeline system, unfavorable weather conditions, especially prolonged rains, directly affected the excavation and embankment, pipeline installation, site clearance and construction on people's roads, which could not be deployed simultaneously because it was necessary to ensure traffic and safety for people, so many items could only be constructed in sections.
We are committed to completing the connection of the clean water supply system by May 30th" - said the leader of the Land Fund Development Project Management Board of Cam Lo commune.
