Hue regulates 2 hydropower reservoirs with a total flow of up to 900m3/s, responding to the risk of heavy rain, flash floods, and landslides.

On September 9, the Hue City Civil Defense Command said that it had just issued a notice to operate and regulate A Luoi hydropower reservoir and A Lin B1 hydropower reservoir in the context of the Central region's weather being forecast to be complicated.

Accordingly, A Luoi hydropower reservoir will operate regulation through the spillway from 1:00 PM on September 12. The flow rate will gradually increase, avoiding sudden changes and is expected to reach 600m3/s.

At the same time, the A Lin B1 hydropower reservoir belonging to the A Lin 3 - A Lin B1 reservoir cluster also adjusted operation. The regulated flow through the spillway is gradually increased, avoiding sudden changes, expected to reach 300m3/s.

The Civil Defense Command of Hue City requests Central Hydropower Joint Stock Company and Truong Phu Hydropower Joint Stock Company to promptly notify people in A Luoi 1, A Luoi 2 and A Luoi 3 communes to proactively prevent the risk of flooding in the reservoir area.

Units are required to regularly update operating conditions, weather developments and report according to regulations.

The regulation of the two hydropower reservoirs takes place during a time when the weather in the Central region is forecast to have many unfavorable factors. According to assessments, the area, including Hue City, is likely to be simultaneously affected by cold air, the intertropical convergence zone and the possibility of forming a tropical depression in the East Sea.

In case a tropical depression forms and strengthens into a storm, combined with cold air and a trophic convergence zone, from about September 10 to 17, Central Vietnam is likely to experience a widespread period of moderate to heavy rain.

Heavy rain can lead to the risk of tornadoes, lightning, flash floods, landslides and localized flooding. The risk is noted in mountainous areas, steep terrain and downstream areas of reservoirs.

Faced with complicated weather developments, the Hue City Civil Defense Command requested departments, agencies, branches and local authorities to closely monitor the situation and regularly update forecast and warning bulletins from the meteorological and hydrological agency.

Localities need to pay special attention to the possibility of forming tropical depressions, storms, heavy rain, floods, inundation, flash floods and landslides; and proactively review and update disaster prevention and control plans according to their functions, tasks and authority.

The goal is to ensure the safety of people's lives, minimizing damage to property and infrastructure when natural disasters occur.
