Hundreds of tons of oil drifted
On March 5, Mr. Phan Cong Man - Chairman of the People's Committee of Phu Loc District (Hue City) said that as of March 3, 2025, the authorities have collected all the bulk oil drifting to the coast of Phu Loc District. The total volume of oil collected and transported reached 364 tons. The collection work was deployed on a coastline of 1.85km during the day, bringing the total length of the treated coastline to 18.45km. About 21 tons of oil have been transported to the gathering point in Lang Co town.
The force participated in the clearing of up to 507 people during the day, including soldiers, border guards, militia, grassroots security, youth union members, unions, party members and local people. According to Mr. Man, since the incident, more than 2,120 people have directly participated in handling crude oil.
The collection work is difficult due to hot weather causing oil to melt, making it difficult to store and transport. The mobilization of shuttle vehicles is also affected due to concerns about vehicle damage and sand-filled terrain.
On the beach, a large amount of bulk crude oil sticks to the sand, stretching along the beach, causing odor and affecting the local environment and landscape. A large number of officers, soldiers and two trucks were clearing and collecting the oil stains. However, the amount of offshore oil continues to drift ashore, causing difficulties for the forces.
Captain Mai Cao Nguyen - Deputy Battalion Commander, Battalion 1, Regiment 6 - said that when arriving at the area where oil was washed ashore, the unit quickly took measures to deploy forces, coordinate with the Border Guard, militia and local people to collect the oil fields.
Vice Chairman of Lang Co Town People's Committee - Hoang Trong Huy said that if the crude oil is not handled in time, in the long run the incident will cause environmental pollution, affecting the development of local tourism.

Collect as soon as possible
With a spirit of urgency and responsibility, forces and people, local authorities have quickly collected crude oil and lumps as soon as possible to avoid pollution on the coast, and soon stabilize tourism and business activities of the people.
The leader of Lang Co Town People's Committee informed that after the authorities collected crude oil in the bags, the Environmental SOS Center and the Central Oil spill response Center planned to send the oil to be processed to ensure regulations and not affect the environment.
Previously, the authorities took sea water samples at four locations, including: The area near Hoang Nhi restaurant; in front of Lang Co Border Guard Station; at the Minh Vien eco-tourism project (operating house); the beach in front of the Angsana hotel area, Laguna tourist area. The evaluation parameters include pH and mineral oil.
The results of the analysis conducted by the Center for Natural Resources and Environment Monitoring, compared according to QCVN 10:2023/BTNMT (National Technical Regulation on Seawater Quality) showed that the pH and mineral oil parameters all met the standards.
Currently, the Department of Natural Resources and Environment has taken additional sea water samples for testing and is waiting for the results. It is expected that this week, we will continue to collect another batch of samples, while closely monitoring developments, ensuring the safety of the marine environment after the incident.
Previously, on February 24, while patrolling along the coast, the Lang Co Border Guard Station and Chan May Border Guard Station discovered black crude oil drifting ashore in Phu Hai village (Loc Vinh commune) and from An Cu Dong 2 residential group to Lap An residential group (Lang Co town, Phu Loc district), with a total length of about 7km.
On the same day, the Hue City Border Guard Command mobilized dozens of officers and soldiers to coordinate with the Environmental SOS Center and the Central Oil Splash response Center to conduct the collection. In the following days, oil prices continued to increase rapidly, forcing units to mobilize more forces to promptly handle.
