On July 27, at Phu Bai Ward Martyrs' Cemetery, the Steering Committee for searching, repatriating and identifying martyrs' remains of Hue City coordinated with Phu Bai Ward People's Committee to organize a ceremony to pay respects, commemorate and bury a martyr's remains that were just searched and exhumed by Team 192, Hue City Military Command in the Huong Thuy station area, belonging to Chau Son residential group, Huong Thuy ward.
The martyr's grave was found during the implementation of the "500-day and night campaign to search, repatriate and identify martyrs' remains".
Previously, after receiving information provided by veteran Le Huu Tong (residing in Phu Bai ward), the Hue City Military Command directed Team 192 to deploy forces and vehicles to organize searches from July 10 to 17. As a result, the unit exhumed a martyr's remains.
According to the repatriation force, the remains were buried at a depth of about 50cm. When exhumed, the remains contained many bones, fragments, and teeth; accompanying artifacts included a blue sheet and a 22cm long breathing tube.
According to historical witnesses, the martyr sacrificed in 1968 in the battle of the enemy's base at Dong Toa, belonging to Thuy Chau commune, Huong Thuy town (old), now Huong Thuy ward, Hue city.
In the solemn atmosphere of the ceremony, delegates offered flowers, incense, and observed a minute of silence to commemorate and express gratitude for the great contributions of heroic martyrs who sacrificed for the independence and freedom of the Fatherland.
After the memorial service, the martyrs' remains were taken to be buried at Phu Bai Ward Martyrs' Cemetery.
