On October 15, Mr. Lai Van Hoan - Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, Head of the Provincial Steering Committee on combating IUU fishing (illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing) - chaired a meeting to listen to coastal communes report on the results of combating IUU fishing in recent times, deploying key tasks in the coming time.
According to the report of the Department of Agriculture and Environment, the work of combating IUU fishing in the area has achieved many positive results. Departments, branches, functional forces and coastal authorities have stepped up propaganda and dissemination of laws on fisheries, increased monitoring of fishing vessels, grasped the list of vessels with expired licenses, and lost connection to VMS devices for timely handling.
Thanks to that, fishermen comply with regulations on declaration, submission of logs and fishing reports; the number of IUU violations and the rate of unqualified fishing vessels has decreased significantly. To date, the province has not had any vessels that have lost VMS connection for more than 10 days, and there have been no cases of violating the permitted boundary at sea.
In his concluding remarks, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Lai Van Hoan emphasized that preventing IUU fishing and removing the "yellow card" is a key political task. He requested localities to clearly identify responsibilities, implement them drastically, and ensure real results.

The Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee requested communes to review all fishing vessels that violate or have lost VMS connection since the beginning of 2024, and be responsible for cases of closing records but not handling them; make a list of vessels that are not qualified to operate in each village; coordinate with competent authorities to strengthen inspection and strictly handle violations. At the same time, the Construction Investment Project Management Board No. 2 was assigned to speed up the dredging progress of flows into fishing ports, port areas and items at Tan Son fishing port, ensuring progress.
The Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee assigned the Department of Agriculture and Environment to advise the Provincial People's Committee to issue a plan to combat IUU fishing for the period 2026-2030; from now until December, focus on implementing tasks under the direction of the Prime Minister.
On the same day, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Lai Van Hoan and leaders of departments, branches and localities inspected the Tan Son fishing port, Thai Thuy commune.
