On September 23, Khanh Hoa Irrigation Works Exploitation One Member Limited Liability Company is still urgently implementing solutions to dismantle the Cai Nha Trang river saltwater dam at Vinh Phuong bridge location.
Mr. Nguyen Thai Hung - Director of Khanh Hoa Irrigation Works Exploitation One Member Limited Company said that in recent days, the Nha Trang area has experienced bad weather, prolonged rain has made dismantling difficult.
Therefore, the unit takes advantage of favorable weather periods and suitable flows to organize construction, and at the same time increases workers and machinery to speed up progress.
In the early days of dismantling, the investor mobilized 2 excavators to clear garbage and break the rock structure under the river.
Regarding the question of why in August, when the weather is sunny and dry, the dismantling has not been implemented, the investor said that on August 24, Khanh Hoa Provincial People's Committee only approved the plan to dismantle the saltwater dam project on the Cai Nha Trang River.
After the plan is approved, the investor will continue to collect opinions from departments and specialized sectors to assess the impact of dismantling on Vinh Phuong bridge near the project and ensure clean water supply.
Another difficulty is that by September 22, the search for landfills to gather soil, rocks and materials after dismantling had not yet been agreed upon.
According to the investor, some locations are being considered by local authorities but there are no roads for trucks to transport materials for gathering. Some other locations are being cultivated by people, so they cannot be used yet.
In the immediate future, construction will be carried out depending on weather conditions and flow.
Materials after dismantling are temporarily gathered on the shore. When the local government signs a contract to lease the temporary yard, soil, rocks and these materials will be transported to the gathering location.
According to the objectives approved by the Khanh Hoa Provincial People's Committee, the dismantling of the existing saltwater dam in the Vinh Phuong bridge area aims to restore the flood drainage capacity of the Cai Nha Trang River, connect waterway traffic and be consistent with the orientation of tourism space development on the Cai Nha Trang river route.
The saltwater prevention dam project was built a long time ago, then reinforced with stone cages, boulders and concrete slabs to reinforce the roof. The project does not have flood drainage control valves.
The main function of the dam is to prevent saltwater intrusion, retain fresh water sources to serve people in Nha Trang and neighboring areas. However, due to the lack of regulating valves, the flood drainage capacity of the project is limited, and it also affects waterway traffic and activities on the Cai River.
