At noon on September 27, a reporter from Lao Dong Newspaper was present at the house of Mr. N.T.T (34 years old, area 10, Chau Van Liem ward, O Mon district, Can Tho city) - one of two victims who died due to a series of accidents caused by a drug-positive driver of a truck.
Entering the house, we could not help but feel heartbroken when witnessing the scene of Ms. Le Thi My Ngan (30 years old, Mr. T's wife) holding her 8-month-old son in her arms, standing crying next to her husband's coffin because of his sudden passing, next to her was an 11-year-old girl crying for her father.
Ms. My Ngan emotionally shared that Mr. T's sudden passing was a huge loss for the family. The two children were still too young, the parents were old and weak, and she herself did not have a stable job. The family's already difficult situation had now become even more difficult.
Mr. T is just a freelancer, working for hire or fishing every day to earn money to support his family. Ms. Ngan used to work as a waitress at a coffee shop near her house, but since having a baby, she has stayed home to take care of her child and has no income.
There was even a time when the family was in dire need, her husband was sick, her child was sick, Ms. Ngan had to pawn her phone for 1.5 million VND to cover living expenses. Because of that, now anyone who wants to contact her has difficulty, they have to come to her house or call her parents.
“About a year ago, my husband had an accident and broke his arm. I was pregnant, so I spent all my savings on his treatment. In recent months, he has been able to go back to work and earn more income, but this sad incident happened not long after. Now my son and I don’t know how to live,” Ms. Ngan cried.
According to family members, yesterday afternoon (September 26), Mr. T was on his way home from work when he was involved in an accident caused by a drug user. When his family received the news and went to the hospital, the doctor announced that Mr. T had died.
Mr. Le Huu Sang - Secretary of Zone 10, Chau Van Liem Ward, O Mon District - said that Mr. T is loved by everyone and always works hard to earn money to support his wife and children.
Mr. T and his wife are currently living temporarily at his sister's house and do not have their own house. The family's situation is very difficult, and his parents and siblings are only freelance workers with unstable incomes, so they cannot help much.
According to Mr. Sang, the total cost of the funeral service package is currently 22 million VND, and the family does not have the money to pay, so they can only wait until after the funeral to collect the condolence money to pay back some of it.
