On August 11, leaders of the Military Command (CHQS) of Dien Dien commune (Khanh Hoa province) said that the unit is urgently searching for witnesses and people who used to live in Dien Son commune (old), related to the ambush that killed 6 officers and soldiers of Battalion 460 in November 1973.
According to archival records, at about 9:30 pm on November 23, 1973, in the area of Cau Ao, Nam village, Dien Son commune, a puppet army ambush occurred targeting 6 officers and soldiers of Battalion 460.
The battle killed all 6 officers and soldiers, including 1 lieutenant, 1 corporal and 4 soldiers. After the ambush, the enemy forces seized 4 AK47 rifles, 1 B40 rifle and 1 K54 rifle.
After the sacrifice, 6 officers and soldiers were buried by local people in the Go Cay area, Dai Dien Nam village, Dien Son commune.
Later, when there was a policy to bring martyrs' graves to the cemetery, officials and local people organized to exhume and bring 6 remains to Suoi Hiep Cemetery.
According to the file, 6 remains were brought into the martyr dossier area of Dien Son commune, behind the monument. However, to date, the exact location of each grave as well as the identities of the 6 martyrs have not been determined.
To have more basis to identify the identity and location of the grave and serve the search and repatriation of martyrs' remains, the Military Command of Dien Dien commune is continuing to collect documents and information from people who used to live, fight or work in the locality on November 23, 1973.
The unit especially wants to receive information from veterans, historical witnesses, local people and people who have known or heard about the ambush at Cau Ao, Nam village, Dien Son commune; the burial at Go Cay, Dai Dien Nam village and the process of bringing 6 remains to Suoi Hiep Cemetery.
Even small pieces of information, such as names, units, hometowns of martyrs, initial burial locations, people directly involved in burials or locations for bringing remains to the cemetery, can become important documents serving the verification process.
Dien Dien Commune Military Command said that the information received will be used to serve research, historical verification, search, repatriation of remains and identification of martyrs.
Finding witnesses who knew about the battle and the burial process of 6 officers and soldiers is of great significance, contributing to clarifying information about those who sacrificed and better implementing gratitude and repayment work.
