Khanh Hoa - Local functional agencies conducted surprise inspections of kitchens at 2 workers-intensive enterprises in the area to tighten food safety.

On July 22, the inter-sectoral inspection team of Khanh Hoa province on food safety conducted a surprise inspection of the collective kitchen at Khatoco Packaging Printing Joint Stock Company (Nha Trang ward) and the bird's nest raw material processing factory under Khanh Hoa Bird's Nest State One Member Limited Liability Company (Suoi Hiep commune).

The delegation focused on inspecting the implementation of food safety assurance conditions such as facilities, equipment, processing processes, food preservation, origin of raw materials, food additives to the implementation of three-step inspection and food sample storage.

Along with checking records, the delegation directly surveyed the processing and preservation area, and took quick test samples for some processed foods and food containers.

Through inspection, the two businesses were assessed to strictly comply with food safety regulations.

The kitchen is arranged according to a one-way principle, ensuring no cross-contamination between raw and cooked foods; the processing area is clean, and the equipment meets requirements.

People directly processing food are given periodic health check-ups and food safety knowledge training. Units also keep complete dossiers proving the origin of raw materials, perform three-step inspection, and store food samples according to regulations.

However, the inspection team also pointed out some shortcomings such as the inconsistent way of recording information on stored samples, and the need to arrange food purchase dossiers more scientifically to facilitate inspection and traceability when necessary.

The delegation requested businesses to continue to maintain food safety assurance conditions, and at the same time proactively monitor the quality of water sources serving processing and living.

The inspection takes place in the context of Khanh Hoa continuing to strengthen food safety management at collective kitchens.

According to the Provincial Inter-sectoral Steering Committee for Food Safety, in the first 6 months of the year, the whole province established 172 inspection teams for 6,416 food production and business establishments and food services.

As a result, 6,212 establishments met the requirements, accounting for 96.8%; 204 violating establishments, 94 establishments were fined with a total amount of more than 1.639 billion VND.

In which, the Economic Police force of the Provincial Police inspected 21 establishments, discovered 15 violating establishments, and fined nearly 960 million VND. The main violations related to trading in food of unknown origin, using unsafe raw materials, violating regulations on processing and preservation, not performing three-step inspection, storing food samples and illegally slaughtering animals.

Implementing the direction of the Provincial People's Committee on strengthening food safety assurance in collective kitchens in enterprises and schools, the Department of Health is coordinating with departments, branches, and localities to review, statistics, and build a database for collective kitchen management in the area.

By the end of June 2026, 36/65 communes, wards, and special zones had issued plans to implement food safety assurance in collective kitchens in schools, in industrial parks, economic zones, and industrial clusters. The summary list will continue to be completed by the Department of Health to report to the Provincial People's Committee in August and September 2026.
