Khanh Hoa - The province sets a target that by March 2027, there will be no more illegal hunting, transportation, consumption, and use of swallows and wild birds.

On September 12, information from Khanh Hoa Provincial People's Committee said that Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Trinh Minh Hoang has just signed and issued a plan to deploy a peak period of protecting swiftlet flocks in the province in the period 2026-2027.

According to the plan, by December 31, 2026, Khanh Hoa strives to significantly reduce illegal swiftlet hunting, preventing the emergence, formation and prolongation of hotspots.

In which, it is requested that localities and related units promote propaganda and raise people's awareness about the economic and ecological value of swiftlets.

At the same time, prevent and move towards ending illegal hunting, protecting and developing sustainably the swiftlet population, including domestic swiftlets and island swiftlets.

The goal set is that 100% of communes, wards, and special zones organize propaganda and dissemination of legal regulations on protecting swallows and wild birds.

Localities must also review and evaluate the compliance with the law at 100% of swiftlet farms in the area.

The province requires 100% of communes, wards, and special zones to establish, maintain, and publicly announce 24/7 hotlines to receive feedback on illegal hunting, transportation, trading, consumption, and use of swallows and wild birds. Reports must be inspected and handled promptly according to regulations.

In key areas, people and businesses are mobilized to sign commitments to implement "3 no's": no hunting, no trading, no consumption of illegal swiftlets.

Functional forces strengthen inspections at purchasing and trading establishments, restaurants, eateries; areas along lakes, lakes, fields, coasts, swallow islands and places where swallow populations are concentrated.

In particular, inspection activities are also deployed in cyberspace, focusing on platforms such as Facebook, TikTok, Shopee, Lazada and groups with transactions and trading of swallows and wild birds.

The Provincial Police are assigned to investigate and handle subjects, lines, and groups with acts of hunting, trapping, trading, transporting, and consuming illegally. Functional forces organize patrols on sea routes, islands, river mouths, and sea mouths to detect and prevent violations.

According to the plan, by March 2027, the province aims to eliminate the situation of hunting, transporting, consuming, and illegally using swallows and wild birds in the area.

From the beginning of 2026 to now, Khanh Hoa Salanganes Nest Company has discovered 52 cases of illegal swiftlet hunting, seizing 119 nets with a total length of more than 10,000m.

Previously, the swiftlet hunting prevention team discovered 514 cases, seized nearly 700 invisible nets and tools, rescued and released nearly 18,000 swiftlets back into nature.

According to scientists, swiftlet meat has absolutely no nutritional content like swiftlet nests.

The habit of swallows is that they live in pairs, when one bird is caught, the other bird does not pair with another but will die along or live alone until the end of its life cycle.
