On August 8, the Steering Committee for searching, repatriating and identifying martyrs' remains of Khanh Hoa province is still accelerating the progress and quality of implementing the "500-day and night campaign to promote the search, repatriation and identification of martyrs' remains".
According to the report at the conference, from August 1 to 7, the Provincial Steering Committee directed agencies, units, and localities to synchronously implement many tasks within the framework of the "Operation 500 Days and Nights".
During the week, news agencies, newspapers and localities posted 95 news articles, 10 articles, 29 video clips on Facebook and made 2 propaganda reports about the campaign. Through information channels, functional forces received 32 pieces of information about the location of martyrs' graves.
Among these, information about single graves includes 30 areas with 41 graves, of which 19 graves have been identified. For collective graves, there is information in 2 areas, expected to have 32 remains.
After screening, 9 pieces of information were transferred to the Provincial Martyrs' Remains Search and Repatriation Team for verification and survey; 23 pieces of information were assigned to communes and wards to continue consolidating dossiers and verifying.
During the week, the Provincial Martyrs' Remains Search and Repatriation Team surveyed 7 areas, with initial information estimated at about 120 martyrs.
One of the outstanding results recognized by the conference is that functional forces coordinated with Anh Dung Commune People's Committee to organize the repatriation of a martyr's remains in Ta Noi village.
This is the 6th martyr's remains to be searched for and collected from the beginning of the "Operation 500 Days and Nights" to date.
Along with searching and repatriating, the work of taking biological samples of martyrs' remains is identified as a key task, aimed at serving DNA testing, gradually identifying martyrs who are still missing information.
Since the beginning of the campaign, the whole province has excavated 1,749/2,183 graves, reaching 80.12% of the progress. There are 1,097 graves that meet the sampling standards; 911 samples have been handed over to the Military Forensic Institute.
Sampling work has been completed at 6/7 martyrs' cemeteries; and Dien Khanh Martyrs' Cemetery, Suoi Hiep commune.
According to the plan, on August 8, the specialized force will continue to take samples of martyrs' remains at Dien Khanh Martyrs' Cemetery, striving to complete the sampling for all 2,183 graves according to the plan by August 16.
Colonel Truong Thanh Viet, Political Commissar of the Provincial Military Command, Standing Deputy Head of the Steering Committee for searching, repatriating and identifying martyrs' remains of Khanh Hoa province, requested that the implementation process must go hand in hand between progress and quality, not chasing after quantity, especially in receiving and verifying information sources and organizing surveys and searches.
Each information must be classified, verified, and clearly identify the origin, witnesses, and related documents.
Information with sufficient basis must be urgently organized for survey, search, and gathering in accordance with regulations.
Regarding the work of taking biological samples, Colonel Truong Thanh Viet requested the specialized force to continue to closely coordinate with localities, ensuring that excavation, sampling, preservation, and handover are carried out in accordance with procedures, safely and scientifically; strive to complete the sampling according to plan, creating a basis for identifying martyrs by DNA testing method.
